Job summary

Jora Malaysia is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Lead to head the engineering team responsible for safe, efficient day‑to‑day plant operations and continuous improvement across maintenance activities.

You will rebuild the maintenance structure, implement PM standards, manage budgets, collaborate with production and quality, and mentor technicians and supervisors in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with relevant maintenance expertise.
  • 6-10 years of hands-on leadership in engineering/maintenance roles.
  • Strong focus on safety, cost control, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the engineering team to ensure safe, efficient day‑to‑day maintenance and plant operations.
  • Rebuild and strengthen the maintenance structure, documentation, and technical know‑how.
  • Develop and enforce PM standards to improve equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Assess equipment and processes to meet production demands and optimize manpower.
  • Drive reliability improvements and continuous process optimisation across the facility.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and cross‑functional teams on improvements.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts, CAPEX/OPEX planning, and consultant input.
  • Ensure regulatory and safety standards are embedded in daily operations.
  • Lead and develop technicians and supervisors, including diverse and unionised workforces.
  • Mentor and develop team members for long‑term engineering strength.

  • Lead and manage the engineering team to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable day‑to‑day maintenance and plant operations with a strong hands‑on approach.

  • Rebuild and strengthen the maintenance structure, documentation, systems, and technical know‑how following team turnover.

  • Develop, implement, and enforce preventive and predictive maintenance (PM) standards and schedules to improve equipment reliability and uptime.

  • Assess and optimize plant equipment, processes, manpower, and maintenance gaps to meet operational and production demands.

  • Drive machine improvements, reliability engineering, and continuous process optimisation initiatives across the facility.

  • Collaborate with production, quality, and other cross‑functional teams to deliver continuous improvement and operational excellence.

  • Manage maintenance budgets, spare parts, CAPEX/OPEX planning, and provide technical input to consultants and regional teams.

  • Ensure full compliance with safety, regulatory, and industry standards, embedding a strong safety culture in daily operations.

  • Effectively lead and develop technicians, chargemen, PM officers, and contractors, including unionised, foreign, and outsourced workforces.

  • Mentor, coach, and develop team members to build capability, succession, and long‑term engineering strength.

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 6-10 years of relevant experience.

  • Proven expertise in engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing processes, with strong hands‑on leadership experience.

  • Deep understanding of manufacturing equipment, maintenance systems, and reliability practices.

  • Strong leadership and people‑management skills, including experience managing diverse and unionised workforces.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety standards, regulatory compliance, and best engineering practices.

  • Process‑driven and numbers‑oriented, with a clear focus on cost control and operational efficiency.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, optimize, and improve operational performance through data‑driven decision‑making.

  • Excellent problem‑solving, communication, and mentoring skills, with the ability to develop junior engineers as the team scales.
