Engineering Intern (Mechanical Maintenance)
As a Reliability Engineering Intern, you will step into a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment, gaining practical experience in industrial maintenance, equipment troubleshooting, and plant reliability. Working directly alongside reliability engineers and senior technicians, you will dive into the mechanical core of the factory—from analyzing high-speed packaging lines to conducting root cause analysis on equipment breakdowns. Your contributions will directly impact Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and ensure production lines run safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Assist reliability engineers in executing Scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Condition-Based Monitoring across filling, packaging, and compounding equipment
- Shadow senior maintenance technicians during equipment teardowns, overhauls, mechanical component alignments (shafts, gearboxes, bearings, couplings), and seal replacements
- Log, track, and update maintenance work orders, spare parts consumption, and equipment asset histories in the plant's CMMS (SAP PM)
- Support spare parts inventory audits by identifying critical wear parts, setting minimum reorder points, and organizing mechanical storeroom staging areas
- Participate in breakdown investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies (5-Why Analysis, Fishbone Diagrams, FMEA) to isolate mechanical failure modes
- Track and evaluate line downtime data to support Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvement initiatives across high-speed packaging lines
- Assist in mechanical bottleneck identification, vibration checks, and lubrication route optimization
- Draft, revise, and standardize mechanical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Autonomous Maintenance (AM) checklists, and Single Point Lessons (SPLs) for machine operators and technicians
- Assist in equipment qualification workflows, supporting Installation Qualification (IQ) and Operational Qualification (OQ) protocols for newly installed or modified plant machinery
- Read and cross-reference Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), pneumatic/hydraulic schematics, and mechanical CAD assembly drawings against physical plant layouts
About you
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Strong foundational knowledge of mechanical systems, fluid dynamics (pneumatics/hydraulics), and thermodynamics
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and P&IDs
- Familiarity with structured problem-solving tools (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA)
- Proficient in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Slides) or Microsoft Office
- Prior exposure to a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) like SAP PM is a strong advantage
- Highly proactive and safety-conscious
- Comfortable working hands-on in a dynamic, high-noise shop floor environment alongside operational teams
- Able to commit to a full-time internship for a duration of 3 to 6 months
