Job summary

Confidential Jobs seeks a Plant Facilities & EHS Engineer to support safe, reliable and well‑maintained plant operations in Selangor. You will oversee facility conditions, housekeeping, basic maintenance coordination and EHS compliance to identify and close deficiencies.

You will monitor plant utilities, manage contractor activities, assist with risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations, and help sustain a strong safety culture on site.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or higher in a related engineering or safety discipline.
  • 1–3 years in industrial plants, manufacturing, utilities, water/wastewater or similar environments.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and environmental requirements.
  • Able to inspect plants and engage contractors and operations personnel.
  • Good documentation and reporting abilities.
  • Willing to spend significant time on site; practical, hands-on approach.

Job description

The Plant Facilities & EHS Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable and well-maintained condition of the plant and its associated facilities. The role provides day-to-day oversight of plant facilities, workplace conditions, housekeeping, basic maintenance coordination, contractor activities and EHS compliance, ensuring deficiencies are identified early, assigned to the appropriate responsible party and followed through to closure.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine inspections of the overall plant and facility condition.
  • Monitor and inspect the condition and integrity of WWTP plant facilities and supporting infrastructure, including process tank structures and access areas, equipment platforms, gratings, walkways, fixed ladders and stairs, handrails, bunds and containment areas, chemical storage and dosing areas, drainage systems, pipe supports, equipment foundations, ventilation systems, lighting, access points and other associated plant infrastructure.
  • Identify damaged, deteriorated or unsafe facilities and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Monitor general utilities and facility-related systems where applicable.
  • Coordinate minor facility repair and improvement works with internal teams and contractors.
  • Maintain a register of facility defects and track actions until closure.
  • Ensure emergency access routes, walkways and working areas remain unobstructed and serviceable.
  • Support planning of preventive maintenance for facility-related assets.
  • Escalate recurring or significant facility deficiencies to Plant Management.
  • Conduct routine EHS inspections and workplace observations.
  • Identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and ensure timely corrective action.
  • Support implementation of Risk Assessments, Safe Work Procedures and Permit-to-Work requirements.
  • Monitor PPE compliance and general workforce safety behaviours.
  • Support toolbox meetings, safety briefings and awareness activities.
  • Maintain EHS inspection, training and corrective-action records.
  • Support incident and near-miss investigations and follow-up of corrective/preventive actions.
  • Monitor availability and condition of emergency equipment including fire extinguishers, emergency showers, eyewash stations, spill kits, first-aid equipment and emergency signage.
  • Support emergency drills and emergency preparedness activities.
  • Immediately elevate serious EHS risks to management.
C. Plant Condition & Housekeeping
  • Drive good housekeeping standards throughout the plant.
  • Conduct routine plant walkdowns and identify poor storage, waste accumulation, obstruction, leakage, damaged equipment protection and general workplace deterioration.
  • Coordinate housekeeping improvement activities with Operations and relevant contractors.
  • Ensure chemicals, tools, materials and temporary equipment are stored appropriately.
  • Promote a workplace standard where abnormalities are identified and corrected rather than becoming accepted plant conditions.
  • Monitor contractors performing maintenance, repair and facility works within the plant.
  • Verify that required permits, risk assessments and control measures are established before work begins.
  • Conduct worksite inspections during contractor activities.
  • Coordinate with Operations to ensure contractor activities do not adversely affect plant operations.
  • Follow up contractor safety violations and incomplete corrective actions.
  • Ensure contractors maintain acceptable housekeeping throughout and following their work.
  • Monitor general environmental conditions within the plant.
  • Support proper chemical and waste storage, segregation, labelling and disposal.
  • Monitor potential leaks, spills and abnormal discharges and elevate accordingly.
F. Client & Management Support
  • Participate in joint site inspections with the client where required.
  • Support preparation and closure of client EHS/facility observations.
  • Provide factual updates on plant conditions and outstanding actions.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Prepare a concise monthly Facilities & EHS performance update highlighting major findings, overdue actions, recurring problems and improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Diploma/Engineering, Facilities Management, Environmental, Occupational Safety & Health or related discipline.
  • Approximately 1-3 years of relevant experience in industrial plants, manufacturing, utilities, water/wastewater treatment or similar environments.
  • Basic understanding of plant maintenance and facility management.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and environmental requirements.
  • Comfortable conducting plant inspections and engaging contractors and operations personnel.
  • Able to identify deficiencies and independently follow up corrective actions.
  • Good documentation and reporting skills.
  • Practical, hands‑on and willing to spend significant time in the plant rather than performing the role primarily from the office.
  • Yellow Book (Registered Site Safety Suprevisor) – Optional
  • OSH Coordinator Certificate – (Company will send if selected Candidate does not possess it.
