Job summary

WPG Holdings in Penang, Malaysia is seeking a Database Administrator to ensure performance, integrity and security of Oracle and MSSQL databases. You will handle day-to-day operations, backups, recovery, and CDC-related data replication to support HQ activities and BCM.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in CS/IT and 1–3 years of relevant experience, with hands-on exposure to Oracle or MSSQL. Strong SQL skills and English/Mandarin communication are important for cross-region collaboration.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage, maintain, and configure Oracle and MSSQL databases to ensure daily operational stability.
• Monitor database performance and system health; escalate routine issues as needed.
• Assist in data synchronization via CDC solutions and data replication.
• Execute and verify database backups and recovery procedures.
• Handle basic database security: user access controls and permissions.
• Troubleshoot routine database issues and escalate complex problems as necessary.
• Collaborate with HQ, application developers, and system administrators to support business operations.

Job description

The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the performance, integrity, and security of company databases. This role focuses on the day-to-day management, maintenance, and support of Oracle and MSSQL databases. Additionally, the candidate will assist in monitoring and maintaining Change Data Capture (CDC) processes to support headquarters (HQ) operations and ensure business continuity (BCM).

Job Functions

Operations & Maintenance: Assist in managing, maintaining, and configuring Oracle and MSSQL databases, ensuring daily operational stability.

Performance Monitoring: Monitor database performance and system health, escalating and resolving routine efficiency issues.

Data Synchronization: Assist in managing data replication and Change Data Capture (CDC) solutions to ensure consistent data synchronization.

Backup & Recovery: Execute and verify database backup and recovery procedures to safeguard business data.

Security Control: Manage basic database security functions, including user access controls and permissions.

Troubleshooting: Address and resolve database-related routine issues in a timely manner, escalating complex problems when necessary.

Cross-Border Collaboration: Work closely with HQ team members, application developers, and system administrators to support business operations

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

1 to 3 years of proven experience in database administration, with hands-on exposure to Oracle or MSSQL (experience in both is a strong plus).

CDC Knowledge: Basic experience or familiarity with Change Data Capture (CDC) technologies (e.g., IBM CDC, Qlik CDC) or data replication tools is highly preferred.

Experience working within an enterprise environment or a regional Shared Service Center (SSC) is an advantage.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Solid foundational knowledge of database administration, performance tuning, and basic security for Oracle and MSSQL.

Proficiency in writing and optimization using SQL, PL/SQL, or T-SQL.

Good understanding of core data replication and ETL/ELT concepts.

Proactive problem-solving skills with a willingness to learn under the guidance of senior team members.

Excellent communication skills in English and Mandarin; ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams across regions and HQ in Taiwan.
