Starway International Sdn Bhd in Malaysia is seeking a hands-on Junior Embedded Hardware Engineer to contribute to bench setup for smart agriculture equipment, RS485/Modbus sensor integration, and low-voltage motor driver debugging.
You will develop lightweight Python scripts, test data ingestion, and document results with traceable logs, while adhering to safety and confidentiality policies.
We are seeking a hands‑on, detail-oriented Junior Embedded Hardware Engineer. In this role, you will participate in bench setup for smart agriculture equipment control, RS485/Modbus sensor integration, low-voltage motor driver debugging, and device data ingestion testing. This position requires solid practical hardware skills, an understanding of hardware-software test logic and the ability to deliver results backed by authentic data and testing evidence.
Hardware Bench Setup & Circuit Debugging:
Handle wiring, component soldering, power safety checks and hardware emergency stop (E-Stop) circuit deployment for desktop low-voltage static test benches.
Use multimeters, current-limiting power supplies and other diagnostic tools to conduct pre-power-up inspections, ensuring safe operation of low-voltage equipment (ESP32, DC motors, sensors).
Sensor Integration & Protocol Testing:
Perform physical wiring, address configuration, and protocol verification for RS485/Modbus RTU industrial sensors (e.g., soil moisture/temperature sensors) and voltage/current sensors (e.g., INA219).
Write basic Python / C++ scripts for serial data polling, parsing, and offline data logging.
Assist in debugging and testing low-voltage DC motor drivers (e.g., MDD3A) and encoder feedback circuits; record RPM, current draw and temperature rise data.
Calibrate and conduct repeatability testing on left/right motor deviations in coordination with simulation models (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink or Python models).
Write lightweight Python scripts to simulate device data, validating MQTT/HTTP telemetry transmission, alarm threshold triggers and network disconnection caching/retransmission logic.
Testing Documentation & Compliance:
Develop comprehensive test cases (covering nominal conditions, power cutoffs, sensor out-of-bounds, hardware E-Stop, etc.) and produce fully traceable test logs and reports.
Strictly abide by electrical safety protocols; unauthorized connection to high-voltage/high-current systems or live vehicle powertrains is strictly prohibited.
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Computer Engineering or related fields (Final-year undergraduates or Master's interns are welcome).
Experience & Technical Skills (0–2 Years / Fresh Graduates):
Hardware Fundamentals: Familiar with basic electronic circuits and schematic reading; proficient in soldering, wiring standards and hands‑on operation of multimeters and DC bench power supplies.
Embedded & Communication: Practical understanding of mainstream MCU development (ESP32, STM32, Arduino); familiar with communication interfaces and protocols such as RS485, Modbus RTU, PWM and UART.
Scripting Skills: Basic Python programming proficiency to handle serial communication (pyserial), CSV/JSON data processing and basic HTTP/MQTT API requests.
Design & Modeling Tools: Familiarity with CAD drafting software (for basic sensor/camera mounting sketches) or foundational simulation in MATLAB/Simulink is an advantage.
Key Attributes & Work Ethic:
Evidence-Based & Hands‑On: Committed to performance evaluations based on functional hardware rigs, reproducible test data and functional source code.
Safety & Confidentiality: Strict adherence to bench safety, emergency stop protocols and corporate data/IP non-disclosure agreements.
Field Adaptability: Willing to conduct on-site field testing and physical data collection across trial grounds and agricultural test sites.
