Job summary

Knauf Insulation Malaysia is seeking a time-served multi-skilled technician to maintain and optimise plant systems. You will troubleshoot electrical and automation components, read P&ID diagrams, and ensure documentation is current.

The role supports safety, energy management, and continuous improvement in a dynamic manufacturing environment. With a technical diploma or certificate, you will work with the engineering team, handle preventive maintenance, and contribute to achieving target

Qualifications

• Three years of working experience in a multi-disciplinary electrical/automation role.
• Ability to read and interpret P&ID diagrams and instrument loop drawings.
• Knowledge of instrumentation equipment such as sensors and transmitters is expected.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills; capable of working in a team.

Responsibilities

• Carry out fault finding and resolve issues on a range of complex systems to support process efficiency.
• Troubleshoot electrical and automation components (motors, starters, PLCs, sensors, valves, conveyors).
• Maintain up-to-date documentation and back-ups; serve as project contact for area modifications.
• Assist in monitoring spend against budget and support CI initiatives.
• Carry out preventive maintenance and ensure health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Contribute to energy management activities and ISO50001:2018 standards when required.
• Ensure quality standards are followed in daily operations and shift handovers.
• Perform additional duties as requested by supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out effective, efficient fault finding and problem resolution to root cause where possible on a wide range of complex systems in a continuous process environment to maintain the plant and deliver target operating efficiencies
• Ability in troubleshooting and rectification of electrical and automation systems such as motors, starter, inverter, servo, wiring, power supply interlock, sensors, control valves, PLCs, conveyors
• As a system owner, ensure documentation is available and up to date and routine software backup/comparison is completed and stored correctly, and be the key contact point for any projects or modifications in your area
• Support the Engineering group by following all financial control procedures so that the Engineering Team has an accurate and up to date picture of current spend vs. budget
• Actively engage in plant continuous improvement (CI) activities
• Carry out the preventive maintenance program that will be assigned to you
• Ensure all responsibilities and activities associated with this role meet the required health, safety and environmental laws, regulations, obligations and duty of care
• Participate in activities related to energy and maintain ISO50001: 2018 Energy Management System when required
• Ensure Quality standards are followed in daily routine and implemented in the workplace
• Perform other related duties as assigned or required

About you

• Time served multi-skilled technician with technical/vocational certificate/diploma qualification in an Electronic/Electrical/Mechatronic/Instrumentation/Industrial Automation discipline
• Minimum of 3 years working experience required for this position
• Fundamental knowledge of instrumentation, including the ability to identify, calibrate, and troubleshoot various field instruments (e.g., pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flow meters)
• Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and instrument loop drawings
• Basic understanding of control loops and signal types (e.g., 4-20mA, digital signals)
• Able to work at extended hours
• Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team, work within deadlines
• Solid problem-solving abilities, good verbal and written communication skills, team player and ability to work on an independent basis
• Possession of a Chargeman qualification certified by The Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) is an added advantage (A4 / A0)
