Bell Ward is recruiting a Director of Learning and Development for a curated luxury hospitality brand in Malaysia. The role focuses on shaping service culture, developing people, and transforming frontline staff into authentic brand ambassadors.

You will design scalable learning programs, partner with local experts, and travel between properties to deliver leadership development and heritage-informed initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, or HR.
  • Experience with boutique luxury hospitality brands or independent resorts is preferred.
  • Business proficiency in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Responsibilities

  • Design and refine guest experience philosophy across multiple properties.
  • Create learning programs enabling multi-functional staff performance.
  • Identify development needs and translate insights into practical learning strategies.
  • Partner with leaders and teams to implement learning initiatives.
  • Develop immersive experiences linking Malaysian culture and heritage.
  • Lead leadership development, succession planning, and cross-property initiatives.
  • Travel between properties to run training sessions and workshops.

Our client, a curated luxury hospitality brand in Malaysia, is looking for a Director of Learning and Development to help shape and elevate their distinctive service culture across multiple properties. If you are passionate about developing people, building culture, and transforming frontline employees into authentic brand ambassadors, this role might be for you!

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, refine, and scale the guest experience philosophy across all properties, ensuring every team member brings the brand story to life through meaningful and personalized interactions.
  • Create innovative learning programs that enhance operational versatility, enabling employees to confidently support multiple functions within a hotel or operating unit.
  • Work closely with business leaders and frontline teams to identify development needs, translate insights into practical learning strategies, and ensure successful implementation and follow-through.
  • Partner with local artisans, cultural practitioners, culinary experts, and community leaders to develop immersive learning experiences that deepen employees' understanding of Malaysian culture and heritage.
  • Maximize learning impact through creative use of digital tools, internal subject matter experts, and modern learning methodologies while effectively managing resources and budgets.
  • Lead talent development initiatives including succession planning, leadership readiness, high-potential programs, executive development, and cross-property task force assignments.
  • Travel regularly between properties to conduct training sessions, coaching, learning audits, leadership workshops, and talent development initiatives.
Key Requirements
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Learning & Development, Talent Development, or Human Resources.
  • Proven experience within boutique hotels, luxury hospitality brands, lifestyle hospitality, or independent resort environments in Malaysia or Southeast Asia.
  • Degree in Hospitality Management, Human Resources, Communications, or related discipline. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of boutique hotel operations, hospitality service excellence, talent development practices, and adult learning principles.
  • Business proficiency in both English and Bahasa Malaysia, with the ability to engage effectively across diverse employee groups.
