Job summary

Kawan Engineering Sdn Bhd is seeking a Design and Costing Engineer to support engineering design, equipment sizing, project costing and tender preparation. You will collaborate with clients, consultants and suppliers to deliver cost-effective solutions.

Open to fresh graduates and junior professionals, with flexible/hybrid working arrangements. Candidates with up to three years of experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design, calculations and equipment sizing.
• Prepare P&IDs, datasheets and technical drawings.
• Develop project cost estimates, quotations and budgets.
• Prepare technical and commercial tenders and client submissions.
• Review client requirements, specs and contract documents.
• Identify technical and commercial risks during design and proposal stages.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers/subcontractors.
• Support project execution, site activities, testing and commissioning.
• Research emerging energy technologies and sustainable solutions.

Job description

As a Design and Costing Engineer, you will support engineering design, equipment sizing, project costing and tender preparation. You will work with clients, consultants, suppliers and project teams to develop practical, technically sound and cost-effective solutions.

Key responsibilities

Perform engineering design, technical calculations and equipment sizing.

Prepare Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), datasheets, drawings and other technical documents.

Prepare project cost estimates, quotations, budgets and material take-offs.

Develop technical and commercial proposals for tenders and client submissions.

Review client requirements, technical specifications and contract documents.

Identify technical, commercial and project risks during the proposal and design stages.

Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.

Support project execution, site activities, testing, commissioning and technical troubleshooting.

Research emerging energy technologies and sustainable engineering solutions.

About you

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.

Open to fresh graduates and junior professionals.

Candidates with fewer than three years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.

Comfortable preparing cost estimates and working with financial or costing spreadsheets.

Able to read and understand engineering drawings, technical specifications and project requirements.

Detail-oriented, organised and capable of identifying design and cost optimisation opportunities.

Curious, hands-on, resourceful and willing to take initiative.

Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Willing to travel or support project-site activities when required.
