Job summary

Toyo Engineering & Construction Sdn Bhd, a leading EPCC contractor in Malaysia, seeks a Process Engineer for Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Refinery projects. You will perform process design, calculations, simulations and generate engineering deliverables, ensuring safety, practicality and cost-effectiveness while meeting client specs.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, participate in safety reviews, and support tender activities, commissioning and site work as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 5–8 years of relevant process engineering/design experience with an engineering/consultancy company in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and/or Refinery industries.
  • Familiar with API, ASME, PETRONAS Technical Standards (PTS), Shell DEP, etc.
  • Experience in process engineering software such as Aspen HYSYS and/or PRO/II.
  • Familiarity with FLARENET, FLARESIM, heat exchanger sizing/rating and other process engineering software is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge and practical experience in preparation and review of typical Process Engineering deliverables, including PFDs, P&IDs, equipment data sheets, process calculations and process specifications.
  • Experience in process simulation, line sizing/hydraulic calculations, PSV/relief system design, control valve sizing and equipment sizing is preferred.
  • Experience in HAZOP/HAZID, SIL and other process safety reviews is an advantage.
  • Experience in Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE), vendor document review and technical clarification with vendors.
  • Experience in proposal preparation and tender/ITB activities is preferred.
  • Able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and possess good interpersonal, communication, presentation and technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and SmartPlant P&ID (SPPID) is an advantage.
  • Experience in Greenfield, Brownfield and plant modification projects is preferred.
  • PC literate with good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Good command of English, both spoken and written.
  • Willing to travel and be stationed at project sites when required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in ITB/tender studies, review client requirements and prepare clarifications and technical documents.
  • Develop process design basis in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, standards and client specifications.
  • Prepare and review Process Engineering deliverables, including Heat and Material Balance (H&MB), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID), Process Design Basis and Design Criteria, equipment data sheets and specifications, process and utility calculations, line sizing and hydraulic calculations, PSV/relief system calculations, and control valve sizing.
  • Perform and/or support process simulation and engineering calculations using appropriate software such as HYSYS, PRO/II, FLARENET, FLARESIM and other relevant tools.
  • Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL and other safety/design review activities, and incorporate agreed recommendations into Process Engineering deliverables.
  • Coordinate and interface with other engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Piping, Instrumentation & Control, Electrical, Civil/Structural and Operations to ensure proper integration of the process design.
  • Liaise with clients, licensors, vendors and third‑party consultants on technical matters, review vendor documents and resolve process‑related technical issues.
  • Prepare and review Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE), vendor technical clarifications and technical recommendations.
  • Support process design reviews, interdisciplinary reviews and client meetings, and address comments and technical queries.
  • Support pre‑commissioning, commissioning, start‑up and site activities, including troubleshooting of process‑related issues where required.
  • Plan and manage assigned Process Engineering activities to meet project schedule, quality and technical requirements.
  • Identify, investigate and resolve process engineering and design issues, with appropriate consultation with the Lead/Senior Process Engineer where required.
  • Ensure Process Engineering deliverables comply with project specifications, applicable codes and standards, company procedures and quality requirements.
  • Maintain proper documentation and ensure timely completion of assigned engineering deliverables.
  • Perform other Process Engineering duties as assigned by the Lead/Senior Process Engineer or Process Manager.
  • Prepare and review Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE), vendor technical clarifications and technical recommendations.

Job description

Process Engineer is responsible to perform process engineering activities for Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Refinery projects, including process design, engineering calculations, process simulations and preparation of engineering deliverables. The role is responsible for ensuring process designs are safe, practical, cost-effective and comply with project requirements, applicable codes, standards and client specifications.

The Process Engineer will coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, clients, vendors and consultants to ensure proper integration of process design across the project. The role will also support technical reviews, process safety studies, tender activities, vendor evaluations, commissioning and troubleshooting, while ensuring assigned work is completed on time and to the required quality standards.

Job Responsibilities

Job Requirements & Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.

5–8 years of relevant process engineering/design experience with an engineering/consultancy company in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and/or Refinery industries.

Familiar with applicable international codes, standards and client specifications, particularly API, ASME, PETRONAS Technical Standards (PTS), Shell DEP, etc.

Experience in process engineering software such as Aspen HYSYS and/or PRO/II.

Familiarity with FLARENET, FLARESIM, heat exchanger sizing/rating and other process engineering software is an advantage.
