Job summary

Randstad Malaysia is seeking an experienced Head of Data to lead a growing data team in Kuala Lumpur. You will shape data strategy, architecture, and governance to enable data-driven decision making across Marketing, Finance, Product and Operations.

You will build and supervise end-to-end data pipelines, primarily using Microsoft Fabric, and translate complex analytics into actionable dashboards. Strong SQL and Python skills are essential, as is a proven track record of delivering measurable

Qualifications

• 6+ years in data analytics, data engineering, or BI with measurable impact.
• Minimum 2+ years of direct people management experience.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric workloads (OneLake, Data Factory, Synapse).
• Expert SQL for complex querying, DB management, and performance tuning.
• Strong Python skills (Pandas, NumPy) for data manipulation and analytics.
• Ability to translate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders and align data strategy with business goals.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and scale a team of data professionals; set goals and conduct performance reviews.
• Architect, deploy, and manage end-to-end data pipelines and analytics using Microsoft Fabric.
• Write, review, and optimize SQL and Python code for data extraction, transformation, modeling, and analysis.
• Partner with cross-functional leaders to define KPIs and deliver dashboards and reporting.
• Establish and enforce data governance, data quality, security and compliance practices.
• Oversee multiple concurrent data projects from requirements to production deployment.

key responsibilities:

• Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, coach, and scale a team of data professionals. Set clear goals, conduct performance reviews, and foster a collaborative environment that encourages continuous learning.
• Data Strategy & Architecture: Architect, deploy, and manage end-to-end data pipelines and analytics solutions, primarily utilizing Microsoft Fabric to unify our data estate.
• Technical Execution: Write, review, and optimize complex SQL and Python code for data extraction, transformation, modeling, and analysis.
• Stakeholder Management: Partner with cross-functional leaders (Marketing, Finance, Product, Operations) to understand business needs, define KPIs, and deliver dashboards and reporting solutions that drive decision-making.
• Data Governance & Quality: Establish and enforce best practices around data governance, data quality, security, and compliance.
• Project Management: Oversee the lifecycle of multiple concurrent data projects, ensuring on-time delivery from requirements gathering to production deployment.

requirements:

• Experience: 6+ years of progressive experience in data analytics, data engineering, or business intelligence, with a proven track record of delivering measurable business impact.
• Leadership: Minimum of 2+ years of direct people management experience, with demonstrated success in hiring, developing, and retaining technical talent.
• Extensive, hands-on experience implementing and managing Microsoft Fabric workloads (e.g., OneLake, Data Factory, Synapse Data Engineering).
• Expert-level proficiency in SQL for complex querying, database management, and performance tuning.
• Strong programming skills in Python for data manipulation, automation, and advanced analytics (e.g., Pandas, NumPy).
• Business Acumen: Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and align data strategy with overarching business goals.

nice to haves:

• Experience with Snowflake or Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Familiarity with other modern cloud data warehouses and ecosystems (e.g., AWS Redshift, Google BigQuery, Databricks).
• Advanced knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
• Understanding of machine learning concepts and how to operationalize predictive models.
