Job summary

AME Construction Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia invites applications for a Costing Engineer to help develop conceptual and preliminary steel designs and cost estimates for industrial and commercial projects.

You will prepare drawings, 3D models, material take-offs, and detailed project cost breakdowns, and collaborate with production, procurement, and project teams.

Fresh graduates welcome; 1–3 years’ experience preferred; strong CAD skills and knowledge of fabrication processes are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil or mechanical engineering.

• Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D design software.
• Understanding of steel fabrication, welding, machining, and surface treatment.
• Able to interpret drawings and specifications.
• Experience in cost estimation, take-offs, and tender preparation.
• Independent and collaborative across departments.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Develop conceptual, preliminary designs for steel structures/ framing.
• Prepare engineering drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
• Perform basic engineering calculations related to structural integrity, loading, welding, and fabrication requirements.
• Coordinate with production, procurement, and project teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.
• Support product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Attend site visits and customer meetings when required.
• Provide technical clarification to clients and internal teams.
• Review customer enquiries, specifications, and drawings.
• Prepare material take-offs, quantity calculations, and cost estimates.
• Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Develop detailed project cost breakdowns covering materials, fabrication, machining, painting, transportation, and installation.
• Prepare technical and commercial proposals for customers.
• Support contract review and tender submissions

What We’re Looking For:

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and mechanical engineering.
• Minimum 1- 3 years’ (including Fresh Graduate) work experience.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and 3D design software (SolidWorks, Tekla, Staad Pro, Sap2000, or similar).
• Strong understanding of steel fabrication processes, welding, machining, surface treatment, and assembly.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with material take-off, cost estimation, and tender preparation.
• Good understanding of structural steel materials and manufacturing methods.
• Self-motivated and capable of handling multiple projects.
• Able to work independently and collaborate across departments
