Job summary

Myamax Precision Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd in Melaka seeks an experienced CNC Machine Setter to independently set up, prove out, operate and optimise CNC Milling and Turning machines to manufacture high-precision components in line with drawings and GD&T.

You will perform tool preparation, program verification, first-piece validation and debugging while maintaining stable processes to support production, quality, safety and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• SKM Level 3/4, Certificate or Diploma in Precision Machining, Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• Equivalent extensive hands-on CNC machining experience may be considered in place of a formal Diploma qualification.
• Normally 3–5 years of CNC machining experience, including independent machine setup.

Responsibilities

• Independently perform complete CNC machine setup and changeover according to engineering drawings, setup sheets and production requirements.
• Prepare and install cutting tools, tool holders, fixtures and work-holding devices.
• Establish work coordinates, tool offsets and appropriate machining parameters.

• Perform dry-run / single-block verification where required before production release.
• Operate CNC Milling and/or Turning machines using FANUC or other applicable controllers.
• Interpret G-code, M-code, canned cycles and machining sequences.
• Complete machine setup safely and within required setup-time targets.

Job description

CNC Machine Setter, the main responsibility is to independently set up, prove out, operate and optimise CNC Milling and/or Turning machines to manufacture high-precision components safely and in accordance with engineering drawings, GD&T, quality specifications and production requirements.

Job Purpose

To independently perform CNC machine setup, tooling and fixture preparation, CNC program verification, work and tool offset setting, first-piece validation and machining troubleshooting. The role is responsible for maintaining stable and efficient machining processes while supporting Myamax Operations in achieving production, quality, delivery, safety and continuous-improvement objectives.

JOB DESCRIPTION — DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

CNC SETUP & MACHINING

• • Independently perform complete CNC machine setup and changeover according to engineering drawings, setup sheets and production requirements.
• • Prepare and install cutting tools, tool holders, fixtures and work-holding devices.
• • Establish work coordinates, tool offsets and appropriate machining parameters.
• • Load, verify, edit and prove out approved CNC programs.
• • Perform dry-run / single-block verification where required before production release.
• • Operate CNC Milling and/or Turning machines using FANUC or other applicable controllers.
• • Interpret G-code, M-code, canned cycles and machining sequences.

QUALITY & PRECISION CONTROL

• • Read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances and GD&T requirements.
• • Conduct first-piece dimensional inspection using appropriate measuring equipment.
• • Use Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, Trimos and other applicable metrology equipment.
• • Interpret CMM inspection reports and make appropriate process/offset corrections within authorised limits.
• • Monitor dimensional trends during production and take corrective action before non-conforming parts are produced.
• • Ensure products comply with drawing, customer and quality requirements.

TROUBLESHOOTING & PROCESS CONTROL

• • Diagnose machining problems including dimensional variation, tool wear, chatter, poor surface finish, fixture problems and machining instability.
• • Adjust tooling, cutting parameters and offsets within authorised process limits.
• • Escalate programming, tooling, machine or process issues requiring Engineering intervention.
• • Support root-cause investigation for machining defects, scrap and recurring process problems.

PRODUCTIVITY & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

• • Minimise machine downtime and setup/changeover time.
• • Support cycle-time, tooling-life and machining-process optimisation.
• • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality, safety and machining efficiency.
• • Support new-product introduction, process qualification and production ramp-up where required.
• • Work closely with Production, Engineering and Quality to achieve output and delivery requirements.

PEOPLE & OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

• • Provide technical guidance to CNC Machinists and Operators.
• • Support training and skills development of less-experienced machinists.
• • Ensure accurate completion of setup sheets, production records and inspection documentation.
• • Maintain 5S, machine cleanliness and safe working practices.
