Job summary

MEP Enviro Technology Sdn Bhd is seeking a Laboratory Chemist to perform chemical testing, sample analysis and quality control while supporting research and environmental compliance at its Penang facilities.

The role emphasizes maintaining lab equipment, preparing technical reports, monitoring treatment systems and ensuring accurate testing and documentation for ongoing projects in waste management and environmental services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with basic knowledge of laboratory practices.
• Experience or fresh graduates acceptable with willingness to learn.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and reporting skills in English/Bahasa Malaysia.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical testing, sample analysis and quality control activities.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and calibrate as needed.
• Prepare technical reports and ensure accurate testing documentation.
• Monitor treatment systems and environmental compliance activities.
• Assist in R&D, process improvement and waste management tasks.
• Train new chemists and ensure safety practices are followed.

Job description

We are looking for a Laboratory Chemist to perform chemical testing, sample analysis, and quality control activities while supporting research, process improvement, and environmental compliance. The role includes maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing technical reports, monitoring treatment systems, and ensuring accurate testing and documentation.

Responsibility and Authority

Responsible for doing sampling and perform related testing & analysis within deadline given

Control chemical inventory and chemicals purchase, gather SDS information

Control and improve the process of recovery and assist in production work if required

Receive and acknowledge samples from all department, log into masterlist, ensure proper traceability and tracking.

Verify and calculate any test results, reported to superior within deadline.

Responsible for any process improvement and R&D related work

Responsible for calculation and quotation reporting to related departments

Environmental monitoring for facilities & performance monitoring data

Responsible for operation of waste water treatment plant and scrubber if he / she is the competent person or attended relevant training

Monitor beg filter, scrubber and waste water treatment plant daily performance record (related CP) and ensure normal operation of such facilities

Responsible for incoming raw material and outgoing material inspection, stock materials testing

Other task assigned by the superior.

Ensure the maintenance and calibration of lab equipment & apparatus

Make sure the glassware & utilities is enough in supply

Responsible to prepare any documents for operation or audit purpose

Make sure the housekeeping of work area (Lab & Fume Cabinet & workshop)

Discharging the responsibility of competent person under the legal requirements after attended training and maintain relevant aspect of such requirements.

Train fresh / new chemist and ensure they understand the know-how of work (applicable to senior position staff)

Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply.

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related science discipline.

Basic knowledge of laboratory practices, chemical analysis, and laboratory safety.

Good analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.

Willing to learn and able to work independently as well as in a team.

Good communication and report-writing skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Mandarin is an added advantage.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Positive attitude, responsible, and eager to develop a career in the laboratory or chemical industry.
