Pentas Flora is seeking an Assistant Manager, Quality Assurance (IKM Chemist) to lead the Laboratory Management System and coordinate accreditation activities across our network. You will chair the management review, oversee audits, and drive continuous improvement in laboratory operations.
You will manage staff development, ensure conformance to ISO 17025 and related standards, and provide technical support to customers and branch operations nationwide.
The Assistant Manager of Quality Assurance/Laboratory reports directly to the Head of Plant Operations and holds the highest authority for setting Laboratory Management System objectives and approving resources. They chair the Management Review Committee, communicate with Standards Malaysia on SAMM accreditation issues, and ensure conformance to the Laboratory Management System. Responsibilities include designing, executing, and improving the system, managing daily lab operations, handling technical issues, and overseeing internal audits, staff training, and customer communications.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Laboratory Management System (LMS) & Accreditation
Set objectives and ensure compliance, improvement, and effectiveness of the LMS.
Liaise with Standards Malaysia on SAMM accreditation matters.
Chair the Management Review Committee and report findings.
Plan and execute internal audits, corrective actions, and improvement programs.
Leadership & Resource Management
Oversee daily laboratory operations, technical issues, and quality control.
Ensure adequate manpower, equipment, facilities, and consumables.
Supervise and develop Senior Chemists and Chemists, including training and competency programs.
Authorize suspension/resumption of testing in non-conforming situations.
Quality & Compliance
Oversee Quality Assurance & Quality Control functions across plant operations.
Manage internal/external proficiency testing (PT) programs and monitor performance.
Review and maintain approved suppliers and subcontractors list.
Support and lead audits (IMS 9001, 14001, 45001, ISO 29001, ISO 17025) and customer audits/visits.
Customer & Business Support
Approve/disapprove customer requests, tenders, and contracts.
Lead technical support and respond to customer inquiries to ensure quality-related client satisfaction.
Provide testing and technical support to branch operations nationwide.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Collaborate with operations, blending, and QC teams to ensure consistent product quality.
Drive continuous process improvements and troubleshoot technical issues.
Support stock-taking activities and other operational coordination as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's in Science – Chemistry, Physics or equivalent.
Familiarity with ISO 17025, IMS 9001, 14001, 45001 and ISO 29001.
Minimum 7 years working experience in laboratory. Preferably registered Chemist in IKM.
Must also be able to direct their work so that the laboratory is operated smoothly.
Previous supervisory experience in all disciplines of the laboratory as the Assistant Manager or similar position.
Ability to work under a certain amount of stress and be able to handle a variety of demanding situations daily.
Have the ability to exercise sound judgement when problems arise and recommend variable solutions.
