Job summary

The JHM Consolidation Berhad group seeks a Chemical Process Engineer to oversee QA, chemical pre-treatment and painting processes in a high-precision factory environment. You will ensure compliance with ISO and RoHS/REACH standards, perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions.

Responsibilities include managing SOPs for chemical handling, conducting audits, and coordinating with safety and production teams to maintain product quality and process efficiency.

Qualifications

• Diploma/Degree in Chemical, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering or related field.
• Experience: QA, chemical process, surface treatment or painting.
• Hands-on in chemical surface treatment (phosphating/electroplating) and painting/powder coating.
• Gauge & equipment literacy: coating gauges, gloss meters, colorimeters and titration kits.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and process instructions.
• Strong problem-solving with 8D-CAR approach.

Responsibilities

• Check chemical concentration, pH, temperature and other process parameters.
• Conduct or arrange chemical bath testing and replenishment.

• Control paint, thinner, hardener and other chemicals.
• Check paint thickness, adhesion, appearance and curing.
• Maintain painting work instructions and process parameters.

• Support NCR, customer complaints, 8D and RCCA.
• Perform root-cause analysis for quality problems.
• Manage, develop and maintain SOPs/WIs for chemical, pretreatment, painting and inspection processes.
• Ensure staff training on new or revised SOPs/WIs.
• Maintain chemical register; SDS/MSDS records; proper lab safety and PPE.
• Coordinate chemical waste disposal with Safety officer.
• Ad-hoc QA tasks as instructed.

2.Painting & Masking Process

Monitor surface preparation, painting and curing processes.

Control paint, thinner, hardener and other chemicals.

Check paint thickness, adhesion, appearance and curing.

Maintain painting work instructions and process parameters.

3. QC Responsibilities

Conduct process audits and quality inspections.

Maintain inspection standards and control plans.

Support NCR, customer complaints, 8D and RCCA.

Perform root-cause analysis for quality problems.

4.Chemical Management and Procedure

Manage, develop, review and maintain SOPs, WIs and process specifications for chemical, pretreatment, painting and inspection processes

Ensure relevant employees are trained on new or revised SOPs/WIs.

Maintain the chemical register.

Ensure chemicals are properly labelled, stored and handled.

Maintain SDS/MSDS records.

Monitor chemical expiry dates and storage conditions.

Ensure proper PPE and chemical-handling procedures are followed.

Coordinate chemical waste disposal with Safety officer.

5.Ad-hoc QA tasks: Perform as instructed by the superior or manager to ensure compliance, process improvement and others

Job Requirements:

Educational Background: Diploma/Degree in Chemical, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering or related field.

Experience: QA, chemical process, surface treatment or painting.

Technical Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience in an industrial environment combining chemical surface treatment (phosphating/electroplating) and industrial painting/powder coating.

Gauge & Equipment Literacy: Competence in operating digital coating thickness gauges, gloss meters, colorimeters, chemical titration kits, and laboratory scale testing equipment

Engineering and customer drawing: Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings, surface finish requirements, and process instructions

Problem Solving: Strong in detail with the ability to troubleshoot root cause in the chemical pre-treatment stage, corrective action and preventive action – 8D CAR

ISO & Regulation: Strong knowledge in ISO 9001, ISO 14001, latest of RoHS, REACH.

Quality & Performance Standards: Familiarity with international testing standards like ASTM D3359 (adhesion), ASTM B117 (salt spray testing), and ISO 3892 (coating weight analysis). Understanding of ISO quality standards and compliance requirements.

Chemical Handling & Safety: Certified or trained in Hazardous Chemical Handling, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) around active chemical lines, and basic lab safety.
