Job summary

Our Client in Malaysia seeks a Buyer cum Planner to manage procurement and material planning, ensuring continuous supply and optimal inventory. You will work with suppliers and internal teams to meet demand while cutting costs and maintaining quality.

Mandarin communication is essential for liaising with Chinese vendors. The role requires 2–5 years in purchasing/planning, a relevant bachelor’s degree, and experience with ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in supply chain management or related field.
• 2–5 years of relevant purchasing/planning experience.
• Proficiency in Mandarin (written and verbal) for liaising with vendors in China.

Responsibilities

Job description

The Buyer cum Planner is responsible for managing procurement activities and production/material planning to ensure continuous supply and optimal inventory levels. This role coordinates closely with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and production teams to meet business demand efficiently, minimizing costs while maintaining quality and delivery performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Purchasing

• Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for materials, components, and services.
• Issue Purchase Orders (POs) and ensure timely delivery of goods.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to achieve cost savings.
• Resolve supply issues, shortages, and discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records in ERP systems.

Planning (Material / Production Planning)

• Analyze demand forecasts and create material requirement plans (MRP).
• Plan inventory levels to meet production needs while minimizing excess stock.
• Coordinate with production, warehouse, and logistics teams on scheduling.
• Monitor stock levels and take action to avoid stock outs or overstock.
• Adjust plans based on changes in demand, supply disruptions, or production priorities.
• Communicate with suppliers regarding delivery schedules and changes.
• Collaborate with internal teams (Production, Engineering, QA, Finance).
• Support new product introductions and sourcing activities

Reporting & Analysis

• Prepare reports on purchasing trends, cost savings, and inventory status.
• Analyze data to improve planning accuracy and procurement efficiency.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives in supply chain processes.

Skillset

• Strong understanding of planning and purchasing item attributes within Oracle ERP or SAP system
• Proven negotiation skills with the ability to manage and develop supplier relationships effectively

Proficiency in Mandarin (written and verbal) is required as the role involves liaising with vendors in China.

Education & Experience
