ZONBERATION GROUP (MALAYSIA) Sdn Bhd is seeking a versatile BMC Firmware Engineer to design, implement and test low‑level firmware for enterprise servers. You will work across OpenBMC, embedded Linux, and server management protocols to build robust out‑of‑band solutions.
This role involves platform bring‑up, device driver work, and security features such as secure boot and TPM/RoT integration, with collaboration across hardware and software teams.
We are seeking talented BMC (Baseboard Management Controller) Firmware Engineers and Embedded Systems Developers across multiple experience tiers.
In this role, you will work on the foundational out-of-band management layer powering modern server infrastructure and data center platforms. Whether you are an experienced BMC specialist skilled in OpenBMC and server architecture, or an embedded software engineer passionate about low-level Linux systems and hardware protocols, we provide an environment to scale mission-critical platform technologies.
Firmware Architecture & Design: Design, develop, test, and maintain robust BMC firmware for enterprise server platforms using Embedded C and C++.
Protocol & Stack Integration: Implement and optimize out-of-band server management standards, including IPMI, Redfish (RESTful API), MCTP, PLDM, and SPDM security protocols.
Low-Level Platform Bring-up: Collaborate on platform board bring-up, device driver development, and bus-level communication across I2C, SMBus, SPI, UART, and PCIe.
Open Source Development: Customize and build firmware environments utilizing OpenBMC, Yocto Project, and embedded Linux kernels.
System Debugging & Triage: Trace, analyze, and root-cause complex interactions across firmware, hardware logic, BIOS, and operating systems using logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
Platform Security: Integrate platform integrity measures, including hardware root-of-trust, secure boot, and cryptographic attestation.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
Core Programming: Strong proficiency in C and C++ within embedded environments.
Systems & OS: Solid understanding of Embedded Linux, Linux kernel concepts, device drivers, and multi-threaded programming.
Hardware Interfacing: Familiarity with low-level communication interfaces and buses (I2C, SPI, SMBus, UART).
Experience Tiers:
Entry-Level / Junior Track: Strong academic or early hands-on foundation in embedded C, microcontroller programming, and Linux operating systems; eager to train and grow into server platform architecture.
Mid to Senior / Staff Track: 3+ to 5+ years of direct experience in server BMC firmware development (OpenBMC, AMI MegaRAC, or proprietary stacks), platform bring-up, and Redfish/IPMI standards.
Languages: Professional English communication skills (written and spoken) for cross-functional technical collaboration.
Direct hands-on experience with OpenBMC stacks, Yocto layers, or systemd architecture.
Familiarity with Intel, AMD x86 server motherboards, or ARM-based system architectures.
Experience with platform security standards (SPDM, Cerberus, TPM/RoT).
Understanding of BIOS/UEFI interactions and server platform management.
