Job summary

SCHOTT is seeking an experienced Automation Engineering Lead in Malaysia to guide a team in automation design, development, and implementation. You will drive opportunities to boost yield, quality, and OEE, oversee projects from concept through handover, and coordinate with suppliers to optimize performance.

Responsibilities include ensuring machine safety and reliability, creating maintenance plans and SOPs, and maintaining ISO/IATF/EHS compliance while mentoring engineers and ensuring on-time

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics or related field.
• 5+ years’ experience in automated manufacturing equipment design and development.
• 2+ years’ experience with automation houses or equivalent industrial environment.
• Experience in supervisory or team-lead roles preferred.
• Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, robotics, and machine vision.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of engineers on automation design, development, and implementation.
• Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve Yield, Quality, OEE, MTBF/MTTR, and cost efficiency.
• Prepare automation concepts, system design, specifications, CAPEX plans, and project roadmaps.
• Oversee automation projects from design to handover.
• Establish testing for automation systems and MES/SAP integration.
• Support daily manufacturing operations by solving equipment, yield, and breakdown issues.
• Drive system capability improvement using hardware, software, robotics, and vision systems.
• Develop maintenance plans, SOPs, and training materials.
• Ensure safety, cleanroom compliance, and reliability.
• Lead continuous improvement to increase productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
• Coach and develop staff in automation knowledge.
• Ensure high equipment availability to meet targets.
• Ensure ISO, IATF, EHS compliance; manage SLAs with providers.
