Job summary
SCHOTT is seeking an experienced Automation Engineering Lead in Malaysia to guide a team in automation design, development, and implementation. You will drive opportunities to boost yield, quality, and OEE, oversee projects from concept through handover, and coordinate with suppliers to optimize performance.
Responsibilities include ensuring machine safety and reliability, creating maintenance plans and SOPs, and maintaining ISO/IATF/EHS compliance while mentoring engineers and ensuring on-time
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in automated manufacturing equipment design and development.
- 2+ years’ experience with automation houses or equivalent industrial environment.
- Experience in supervisory or team-lead roles preferred.
- Strong knowledge of PLC, HMI, robotics, and machine vision.

- Lead continuous improvement to increase productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
- Coach and develop staff in automation knowledge.
- Ensure high equipment availability to meet targets.
- Ensure ISO, IATF, EHS compliance; manage SLAs with providers.

- Experience in PLC and HMI programming, Industrial robotics (6‑axis robots, cobots), Machine vision system design and implementation
- Familiar with IT/OT, Industry 4.0, MES, IoT integration
- Familiar with Machinery safety standards and compliance, Equipment maintainability and reliability concepts, and CAD drawings and technical documentation
- Strong mechanical and electrical system knowledge
- Ability to read and create mechanical drawings and wiring diagrams
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with suppliers
- Good communication and leadership skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and engineering software (AutoCAD, NX, etc.)
- Good command of English
