Job summary

jawat johan sdn bhd is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our surveying team on a contract basis. Based at the POIC Project site in Lahad Datu, Sabah, this role offers an opportunity to develop your quantity surveying expertise within a dynamic construction environment.

You will support senior surveyors in managing project costs, preparing estimates, and ensuring accurate financial control throughout the construction lifecycle, with a 6-month engagement and potential for extension.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Quantity Surveying/Construction Management or related field.
• Proficiency with measurement, take-off, and cost control concepts.
• Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
• Ability to work in a team and across departments.

Responsibilities

• Measure and verify subcontractor work progress and claims.
• Check quantities against drawings, BQ, specifications, and site conditions.
• Monitor, record & audit material delivery, utilisation, and quantities at site.
• Assist in the preparation of subcontractor payment certification records.
• Maintain proper site measurement records, material records, cost records, supporting documents, and audit trails.
• Other related project requirements as assigned by the Project Manager.
• The candidate shall be stationed full-time at the POIC Project site in Lahad Datu the required project engagement period for 6 months.

About the role

Key responsibilities

• Measurement and verification of subcontractor work progress and claims.
• Checking quantities against construction drawings, BQ, specifications, and actual site conditions.

What we're looking for

• Preferably possess a Diploma or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Building, or other relevant qualifications.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, quantity take-off, measurement of works, progress claims, and construction drawings would be an advantage.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across departments.
• Competence in project management and the ability to manage multiple tasks with competing priorities.
