Luxury Sleep Products Sdn Bhd. in Malaysia is seeking a QA Assistant Manager to support the QA Manager in day-to-day QA/QC operations across the manufacturing floor.
You will supervise IQC, IPQC and Finished Goods QC activities, ensuring incoming materials, WIP, and finished products meet specifications and customer requirements. Responsibilities include planning inspections, conducting audits, root cause analysis, and driving corrective actions with cross-functional teams.
Assist the QA Manager in managing and overseeing the day-to-day Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities of the manufacturing operations. Act as the person-in-charge of day-to-day QA/QC operations and support the QA Manager in managing the department.
Key responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate QA/QC personnel, including Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC), and Finished Goods Quality Control activities.
Ensure incoming raw materials, components, work-in-progress, and finished products comply with approved specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements.
Plan and monitor daily inspection activities and ensure inspections are carried out according to established inspection procedures and frequency.
Conduct and oversee first-piece, start-up, in-process, patrol, and finished goods inspections where applicable.
Ensure production uses the correct raw materials, components, specifications, Bill of Materials (BOM), approved samples, drawings, and work instructions.
Conduct regular production floor audits and monitor critical quality checkpoints to identify quality issues at an early stage.
Ensure non-conforming materials and products are properly identified, segregated, recorded, and prevented from proceeding to the next process or shipment.
Coordinate with Production on immediate containment, rework, repair, and corrective actions for quality issues.
Verify and approve reworked or repaired products before release to the next production process or finished goods.
Monitor product quality requirements including dimensions, construction, workmanship, appearance, materials, labelling, packaging, and other product-specific requirements.
Monitor mattress, bedding, divan, bed frame, headboard, foam, spring, quilting, sewing, upholstery, and related product quality requirements where applicable.
Investigate internal quality issues, product defects, and customer complaints together with the QA Manager and relevant departments.
Conduct root cause analysis and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions to avoid recurrence.
Issue, monitor, and follow up on Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), Corrective Action Reports (CAR), and other quality-related reports where applicable.
Monitor quality trends, rejection rates, rework rates, recurring defects, and customer complaints and recommend improvement actions.
Coordinate with Purchasing and Warehouse on incoming material quality issues and assist in following up with suppliers on corrective actions where required.
Work closely with Production, R&D, Purchasing, Warehouse, Sales, and other relevant departments to resolve quality issues and improve product quality.
Maintain accurate and complete QA/QC records, including incoming inspection, IPQC, finished goods inspection, rejection, rework, NCR, corrective action, and customer complaint records.
Assist the QA Manager in internal audits, customer audits, external audits, and other quality-related assessments.
Follow up on audit findings and ensure assigned corrective actions are completed within the required timeline.
Train, guide, and monitor QA/QC and IPQC personnel on inspection procedures, product specifications, defect criteria, quality standards, and documentation requirements.
Ensure measuring and inspection equipment is properly used, maintained, and calibrated where applicable.
Assist the QA Manager in developing and improving quality procedures, inspection standards, work instructions, and quality control processes.
Support continuous improvement activities to reduce defects, rejection, rework, wastage, and customer complaints.
Act as the person-in-charge of day-to-day QA/QC operations and support the QA Manager in managing the department.
Perform any other duties assigned by the QA Manager or Management from time to time.
Qualifications
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Quality Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant working experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, IPQC, or a related manufacturing quality role.
Minimum 1–2 years of supervisory or team-leading experience is preferred.
Experience in mattress, bedding, furniture, foam, upholstery, or related manufacturing industries is an advantage.
Experience in managing incoming, in-process, and finished goods quality inspection is preferred.
Experience in handling non-conformance, corrective actions, root cause analysis, and customer quality complaints is an advantage.
Skills & Knowledge
Good knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control principles, inspection procedures, and manufacturing quality processes.
Good understanding of Incoming Quality Control (IQC), In-Process Quality Control (IPQC), and Finished Goods Quality Control.
Knowledge of root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, NCR, CAR, and problem-solving techniques.
Ability to read and understand product specifications, BOM, drawings, approved samples, and work instructions.
Good understanding of product dimensions, workmanship, appearance, materials, construction, labelling, and packaging requirements.
Knowledge of mattress, bedding, foam, spring, quilting, sewing, divan, bed frame, headboard, and upholstery manufacturing processes is an advantage.
Knowledge of quality management systems and audit requirements is an advantage.
Ability to use measuring and inspection equipment and understand calibration requirements.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend practical corrective actions.
Strong attention to detail with a high level of quality awareness.
Good leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to guide and manage QA/QC and IPQC personnel.
