About the role
We are seeking an Account Assistant to join our accounting team on Penang Island, Penang. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your bookkeeping and accounting expertise within a small practice environment. As an Account Assistant, you will provide essential support to our accounting operations, helping to maintain accurate financial records and ensuring the smooth running of our finance function. This role offers the chance to gain practical experience across various accounting tasks whilst working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative team setting.
What you'll be doing
- Processing and recording financial transactions accurately in the accounting system
- Maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts and bank statements
- Preparing and processing receipts and payment documentation
- Supporting the preparation of financial statements and accounting records
- Performing data entry tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
- Manage Full Set Accounts including GL, AR, AP, fixed assets, and accounting ledgers.
- Supporting compliance activities and assisting with month-end and year-end closure processes
- Organize accounting records for audit, tax computations, and liaise with auditors and tax agents
- Handle payroll activities including employee salary computation, statutory deductions, and related submissions.
- Handle Form E preparation and submission to LHDN, ensuring accuracy and timely compliance
- Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data protection procedures
What we're looking for
- A qualification in bookkeeping, accounting or a related finance discipline, or equivalent practical experience
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all financial record keeping tasks
- Proficiency with accounting software (Autocount) and Microsoft Office applications
- Sound understanding of bookkeeping principles and double-entry accounting practices
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure during busy periods
- Discretion and integrity in handling sensitive financial information
- A proactive approach and willingness to learn and develop professionally
- Preferably 1-2 years' experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role
