Ford of Mexico's Chassis Engineering team at GTBC in Mexico City is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own the design, validation, and production release of wheel, tire, and jack systems for key global programs. You will lead the end-to-end lifecycle from concept to post-launch, partnering with cross‑functional teams and suppliers to influence safety, handling, and weight efficiency.

In this position...

As part of our Chassis Engineering organization based at the Global Technology and Business Center (GTBC) in Mexico City, you will take full ownership of the design, validation, and production release of wheel, tire, and jack systems for key global vehicle programs. In this role, you will lead the end-to-end component lifecycle—from advanced digital design and physical prototyping to assembly plant launch. By collaborating with global cross-functional partners and external suppliers, you will directly influence vehicle safety, driving dynamics, weight efficiency, and craftsmanship for customers around the world.

What you'll do...

• Lead End-to-End Design & Release: Own the complete engineering design, development, and release lifecycle for wheel, tire, and jack systems across assigned vehicle programs from early concept through post-launch steady state.

• Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) & Change Control: Author and manage comprehensive engineering Bills of Materials (BOM) and execute engineering change requests to maintain strict part configuration control across all vehicle phases.

• Drive Validation & Robustness: Develop and execute rigorous Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R), ensuring full compliance with system design specifications, vehicle dynamics performance targets, and global safety standards.

• Optimize Cost, Weight & Craftsmanship: Identify and execute design optimization initiatives to meet aggressive program targets for mass reduction, piece/tooling cost efficiency, assembly feasibility, and quality excellence.

• Partner with Sourcing & Global Suppliers: Author Engineering Statements of Work (ESOW), support technical supplier reviews, and provide hands-on technical guidance to ensure manufacturing feasibility and supplier quality readiness.

• Direct Assembly Plant Integration & Launch: Collaborate directly with vehicle assembly plants during prototype builds and launch phases to resolve engineering build issues, verify parts incorporation, and close plant quality concerns.

You'll have...

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline (or equivalent practical experience).

• Relevant automotive engineering experience (typically 2 to 4 years) focused on mechanical component design, chassis systems, or product release processes.

• Demonstrated working knowledge of automotive product development milestones, engineering change management, and Bill of Materials (BOM) authoring.

• Practical experience developing Design Verification Plans and Reports (DVP&R) and conducting physical component validation testing.

• Familiarity with Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) disciplines, such as Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and 8D root-cause methodologies.

• Strong cross-functional collaboration and analytical skills to align global engineering teams, manufacturing plants, and tier-one suppliers.

Even better, you may have...

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related technical field.

• Hands-on proficiency with 3D CAD platforms (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) / enterprise release systems.

• Experience authoring technical sourcing documentation, including Engineering Statements of Work (ESOW), and evaluating tooling or piece-cost structures.

• Direct experience supporting vehicle assembly plants, prototype launch builds, or plant-floor issue resolution.

• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
