Job summary

CommScope in Mexico is seeking a Staff Tooling Engineer to design, develop, build and maintain molds, dies and fixtures for manufacturing. You’ll join a collaborative team focused on practical engineering, technical rigor and continuous improvement to boost production performance.

The role requires 5+ years in tooling, experience with plastic injection molds, SolidWorks, and mold flow software, plus travel up to 15%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in a similar position.
• Knowledge of metals for mold construction.
• Extensive experience designing plastic injection molds and mold validations.
• Proficiency with standard productivity tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to travel up to ~15% to support global manufacturing locations.

Responsibilities

• Define technical requirements and design characteristics for plastic injection molds.
• Coordinate mold design for new product introduction and mold replacement.
• Define and fill out the RFQ formats for the quotation of molds including metal type, gate, and casting system.
• Select a supplier for mold manufacture according to project needs.
• Lead design reviews with mold manufacturers to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Define validation methods for new molds.
• Supervise mechanical inspection of incoming molds at CommScope’s campus.
• Set preventive maintenance frequency for new molds with Tool Room Supervisor.
• Provide troubleshooting support with existing molds to Molding Process Engineers.
• Follow Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures.
