Job summary

CommScope is seeking a Staff Tooling Engineer to design, develop, build and maintain special molds, dies and fixtures used in manufacturing CommScope products. You will partner with manufacturing teams on injections mold validation and process improvements to drive equipment performance.

The role requires extensive mold design and validation experience, collaboration across cross-functional teams, and the ability to travel up to 15% for global locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5+ years in a similar position with mold design experience.
• Extensive experience designing plastic injection molds and mold validations.
• Proven expertise in plastic injection processes.
• Hands-on experience building, debugging, and qualifying mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Ability to travel up to ~15% to support global manufacturing locations.

Responsibilities

• Defines the technical requirements and design characteristics for plastic injection molds.
• Coordinate mold design for new product introduction and mold replacement.
• Define and fill out the RFQ formats for the quotation of molds including metal type, gate, casting system and mold specs.
• Select a supplier for the manufacture of molds with the Project Manager.
• Lead design reviews with mold manufacturers to ensure compliance with technical specs.
• Define the methods for validating new molds.
• Supervise the mechanical inspection of incoming molds at CommScope’s Campus.
• Define the preventive maintenance frequency for new molds with the Tool Room Supervisor.
• Provide troubleshooting support with existing molds to Molding Process Engineers.
• Adhere to Safety, Health and Environment policies.
