Job summary

tonder is seeking a VP Platform Engineering to own architecture, platform runtime, and reliability for a multi-region payments platform. You will lead SREs and engineers across the Americas, shaping design reviews, deployment strategies, and on-call governance.

The role requires deep Python/Django expertise, AWS production experience, and strong leadership in a distributed team. You will design with a focus on security by design, PCI SOC 2 readiness, and scalable event-driven patterns, while

Qualifications

• 12+ years building software with distributed transactional systems.
• Payments depth: authorization, capture, idempotency, ledgers, reconciliation.
• Expert in Python with Django and Django REST Framework; Celery; PostgreSQL at scale.
• AWS in production: ECS, EC2, Fargate, RDS/Aurora, SQS, Kinesis, Lambda, API Gateway.
• Terraform at module level with CI; GitHub Actions; automation scripting.
• Event-driven architecture and API design for third parties.
• Datastores and search indexes; TypeScript in serverless contexts.
• On-call rotation and incident command; postmortems.
• Linux/container debugging; observability and cost awareness.
• Security by design; PCI SOC 2 considerations.
• Leadership of architects/staff engineers; professional fluency in Spanish & English.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture: orchestration core design, domain boundaries, and multi-region strategy.
• Lead runtime platform on ECS, including sizing, health checks, and deploy strategies.
• Define reliability: SLOs, error budgets, capacity gates, and game days.
• Establish governance: review gates, design records, and cross-team standards.
• Drive incident response, on-call governance, and blameless postmortems.
• Shape observability, cost controls, and vendor/audit readiness.
