Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Sr. Procurement Manager to lead a 6-person buyer team for the Chillers Product Business Unit. You will shape procurement strategy, manage supplier relationships, and drive cost, quality, and delivery improvements within a ~1B annual budget.

You will collaborate with engineering, operations, and project teams to align sourcing with delivery plans, and you will champion education and sustainability across the global supply chain.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or equivalent; MBA is a plus.
  • 6+ years in a multinational organization.
  • 6+ years in a Strategic Sourcing role, preferably with Direct Materials.
  • Proven track record of leading high-performing teams within a matrix environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; able to handle ambiguity.
  • Experience negotiating complex supply contracts; willing to travel 10% globally and domestically.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.

  • Provide procurement support for NPI (new product introductions).
  • Lead negotiations to secure favorable pricing, terms, and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement processes and drive continuous improvement.

Role Overview

We are looking for a passionate and strategic Sr. Procurement Manager to lead a team of 6 buyers in driving growth and profitability for our Chillers Product Business Unit (PBU). You will be a key member of the PBU leadership team reporting to the Director of Procurement. You will provide innovative procurement solutions and fostering a high-performing team environment, in a business experiencing rapid expansion.

What will you do?
  • Lead with a Growth Mindset: Identify and develop new sourcing opportunities with a focus on business expansion and category growth.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Cultivate a growth-minded approach within your team, promoting supplier innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Foster Strong Relationships: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers, demonstrating high emotional intelligence and effective communication skills.
  • Lead a High-Performing Team: Develop and coach a team of 6 buyers, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented environment.
  • Develop and Execute Procurement Strategy: Collaborate with the PBU leadership team to define and execute strategic procurement initiatives that optimize spend within the ~1B annual budget.
  • Manage End-to-End NPI Support: Provide comprehensive procurement support for new product introductions (NPI) within the PBU.
  • Lead Negotiations: Secure optimal pricing, terms, and quality through strategic negotiations with critical suppliers.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: Ensure team compliance with established procurement processes and participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop Team Capabilities: Champion continuing education for your team to enhance their effectiveness and build strong supplier relationships.
  • Promote Sustainability: Identify and implement sustainable procurement practices within the global supply chain.
How will you do it?
  • Own outcomes with accountability and integrity by making transparent sourcing decisions, following through on commitments, and ensuring procurement activity is well documented and compliant.
  • Stay close to the work by partnering early with project, engineering, and operations teams to understand needs, remove obstacles, and keep sourcing aligned to delivery plans.
  • Use data, supplier roadmaps, and risk registers to prioritize what matters most and balance cost, quality, delivery, and resilience.
  • Improve every day by challenging current methods, learning from issues, and turning lessons into stronger procurement practices.
  • Win as one team by coaching your team, building trust across functions, and collaborating closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, or equivalent; an MBA is a plus.
  • Minimum 6-10 years of experience in a multinational organization.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a Strategic Sourcing role, preferably with Direct Materials.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams within a matrix environment.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle ambiguity and complex situations.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or other equivalent ERP systems.
  • Experience negotiating complex supply contracts.
  • Ability to travel 10% globally and domestically
Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting project-based procurement or new product introduction activity.
  • Exposure to APAC or other multinational procurement environments.
  • Experience contributing to procurement digitalization, process improvement, or sustainability initiatives.
