Remitly, a global money-transferring platform, seeks a Senior Counsel based in Mexico City to lead regulatory matters and licensing across Latin America. You will advise on payments agreements, product development, and licensing with regulators, working closely with business, product, compliance, and finance teams.

The role requires 8+ years of Mexico‑based legal experience, including interaction with regulators and external counsel, and fluency in Spanish and English.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience practicing law in Mexico, with in‑house and/or top national/international law firm background.
• Experience advising on payments agreements and product development in financial services.
• Direct licensing experience for a financial entity in Mexico (e.g., IFPE, Sofipo) including regulator interaction.
• Deep knowledge of Mexican payments regulations and SPEI, plus regional regulatory exposure is a plus.
• Experience working with regulators and managing external counsel.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional legal projects in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment across countries.
• Fluency in Spanish and English (professional proficiency) required.

Responsabilités

• Provide expert legal support on regulatory matters and licensing initiatives across Latin America, including Mexico.
• Negotiate payment agreements and advise on product development within regulatory constraints.
• Interpret complex legal/regulatory requirements, identify risk and opportunity, and deliver timely guidance.
• Review and negotiate strategic agreements with partners, banks, and payment processors.
• Coordinate with government relations and compliance teams on regulatory matters.
• Monitor changes in payment laws and regulations and advise product teams on necessary updates.
• Manage external counsel across jurisdictions as needed.
• Support broader regional legal work in Latin America.
