Job summary

Chubb Insurance Hong Kong is seeking a Software Engineer with strong backend experience to design and deliver production-grade features end-to-end. You will operate with autonomy on moderately complex problems, take ownership of quality, and shape technical decisions within your squad.

You will design and implement backend services in Java (Spring Boot/Quarkus) and Python (FastAPI), apply SOLID OO principles, and review trade-offs in code.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and implementing backend services and APIs using Java (Spring Boot/Quarkus) and Python (FastAPI).
• Strong object-oriented design with SOLID principles and refactoring skills.
• Knowledge of design patterns and trade-offs in code reviews.
• Hands-on API design including RESTful modeling, versioning, pagination, and auth using OAuth 2.0/JWT.
• Proficient in SQL Server with advanced queries and optimization techniques.
• Experience deploying and operating services with Kafka producers/consumers and idempotent design.
• Cloud/DevOps experience with Azure services (AKS, Key Vault, AppInsights).
• Familiarity with Git workflows, branching strategies, and code review discipline.
• Ability to integrate AI development tools in daily workflows while enforcing quality gates.
• Mentor junior developers through pairing, feedback, and design walkthroughs.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and APIs across Java and Python.
• Apply OO design, SOLID principles, and refactor where needed.
• Use design patterns and articulate trade-offs during reviews.
• Design RESTful APIs with versioning, pagination, and auth.
• Write advanced SQL Server queries and optimize performance.
• Implement Kafka producers/consumers and manage offsets and deserialization.
• Deploy and configure Azure Kubernetes Service, Key Vault, and AppInsights.
• Manage Git workflows and conduct effective code reviews.
• Integrate Claude Code and other AI tools while maintaining quality gates.
• Mentor juniors and deliver accurate estimates with risk awareness.
