EXL is seeking a backend engineer to design, build, and operate robust services in Python and Java, with a focus on secure, reliable, and scalable systems. You will work on APIs, integration components, and production troubleshooting in a hybrid setup in Mexico City or Toluca, collaborating across multiple teams.

The role emphasizes writing clean code, comprehensive testing, and adhering to best practices while leveraging AI tools responsibly for coding and refactoring.

Formación

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in Python and Java.
• Solid experience with REST APIs, SQL/NoSQL, and Git workflows.
• Strong testing practices and CI/CD fundamentals.
• English proficiency: professional working level or above (B2/C1 preferred).

Responsabilidades

• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and integration components.

Location: Hybrid - 3 days in office in Mexico City (Azcapotzalco) or Toluca

Duration: Full Time

Role Summary:

Design, build, and operate robust backend services in Python and Java, using AI tools such as Claude and Copilot responsibly to improve productivity and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, and integration components.
• Write clean, testable, maintainable code and perform quality code reviews.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and production troubleshooting.
• Apply secure coding, observability, reliability, and performance best practices.
• Collaborate with QA, DevOps, Architecture, Security, Data teams, and product stakeholders.

AI Skills for This Role:

• Practical use of Claude/Copilot for coding, refactoring, debugging, and test generation.
• Ability to write high-quality prompts for technical tasks.
• Ability to critically review and harden AI-generated code.
• Awareness of data security and IP/confidentiality constraints when using AI tools.

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of backend development experience.
• Strong hands-on proficiency in Python and Java.
• Solid experience with REST APIs, SQL/NoSQL, and Git workflows.
• Strong testing practices and CI/CD fundamentals.
• English proficiency: professional working level or above (B2/C1 preferred).

Nice to Have:

• Microservices, event-driven architecture, and cloud-native development.
• Familiarity with DDD, clean architecture, and design patterns.
• Prior experience in financial services.
