Athenaworks seeks a Sr AI Engineer to help build and scale a conversational AI platform for business workflows. You will work on AI systems that understand context, retrieve information from internal services, and support real-time product experiences.

The role blends backend engineering, agentic AI, product integration, and platform reliability, with a Python/LangGraph/AWS stack. The team is distributed across Europe and LATAM, and engineers are treated as peers.

Competenze

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with backend systems and AI/agent development in last 1-2 years.
• Strong production Python skills: async/await, FastAPI, Pydantic, typed codebases, pytest.
• Hands-on experience building LLM applications, AI agents, and RAG systems in production with ownership.
• Experience with LangChain and LangGraph (state machines, routing, tool nodes).
• RAG: BM25 + dense embeddings, vector DBs (pgvector, FAISS, Weaviate, Qdrant).
• Knowledge of MCP (Model Context Protocol) and agent-to-tool integration patterns.
• Reliability engineering for LLM/agent systems: retries, circuit breakers, observability.
• AWS cloud skills: ECS, Lambda, SQS, RDS/PostgreSQL, S3; Docker; Kubernetes.
• Strong communication in a fast-paced distributed environment.

Mansioni

• Design AI agentic architectures for customer engagement and automation use cases.
• Build and maintain asynchronous backend services and real-time interactions between AI systems and product interfaces.
• Develop pipelines for agent reasoning, memory, planning, and tool use with secure contracts.
• Implement reliability patterns: timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, caching, rate limiting.
• Evaluate models/agents to improve performance, reliability, and alignment with guardrails.
• Implement guardrails for permissions, unsafe inputs, prompt-injection, and tool misuse.
• Standardize observability with LangSmith, Langfuse, OpenTelemetry; create actionable incidents.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, platform, and data teams to deliver safe AI experiences.
• Stay ahead of trends in agent-based AI and bring innovative ideas to the product.
