Job summary

Mercor is seeking a Web Development Expert to work fully remotely as a Frontend Engineer on a contract basis. Compensation is up to $90/hr. The role focuses on rendering, comparing, and judging two candidate reproductions for fidelity across viewports, using HTML/CSS and JavaScript to analyze DOM impact and typography.

Applicants should have 3–8 years of frontend experience, strong manual HTML/CSS skills, and proficiency with browser DevTools. Prior RLHF or code-review experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• 3–8 years of professional frontend or full-stack web development.
• Fluency across web eras including legacy layouts.
• Written English for task justification.
• Hands-on HTML and CSS: semantic markup, flexbox, grid, media queries.
• Browser DevTools proficiency.
• CLI skills: local server setup and image troubleshooting.
• JavaScript enough to read scripts and assess DOM impact.

Responsibilities

• Render a reference page and two replications at 1920×1080 and judge closeness.
• Analyze CSS box model, typography, color, borders, assets, z-order, and overflow.
• Read source attempts and grade construction quality.
• Test responsiveness across viewports and identify collapses.
• Provide evidence-based justifications for all preferences.
• Use the escape hatch to flag unfinishable tasks when needed.
