We are seeking high-performing Design Release Engineers (DRE) - Multi-Commodity (Junior, Mid, and Senior Levels) to lead the design, validation, integration, and engineering release of next-generation automotive systems. In this role, you will hold complete product ownership across critical vehicle commodities—ranging from traditional ICE platforms to high-voltage EV architectures—balancing performance, manufacturability, cost, and quality standards.
This position operates under a remote-first modality within Mexico, but requires active on-site presence at OEM assembly facilities, Tier-1 manufacturing plants, and technical centers during critical launch milestones, prototype builds, and supplier tooling sign-offs.
Core Commodity Tracks
Candidates will be aligned based on their technical specialization within one of the following domain areas:
- Body in White (BIW) & Chassis: Sheet metal stampings, high-pressure aluminum die-castings, structural frames, suspension systems, steering, and braking components.
- Interior & Exterior Trim: Cockpit assemblies, door panels, exterior bumpers, lighting, weatherstrips, and sealing systems.
- Powertrain & Electrification (EV): Battery pack enclosures, e-motor integration, power electronics packaging, structural brackets, and thermal management loops.
- E/E & Embedded Architecture: Low/High-voltage wiring harnesses, ECU packaging, ADAS sensor integration, infotainment systems, and CAN/LIN networks.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Product Engineering & Release: Lead the full product lifecycle (concept to SOP/PPAP) for assigned components and assemblies, managing BOM structures and engineering changes within PLM platforms (Teamcenter, Enovia, Windchill).
- System Design & Optimization: Establish technical specs, clearances, and performance targets; perform stack-up analyses and balance NVH, durability, weight, and mass-production constraints.
- Supplier Technical Management: Direct Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers through CAD design reviews, DFM/DFA feedback, tooling timelines, prototype deliveries, and PPAP sign-offs.
- Validation & DVP&R Execution: Author, track, and execute Design Verification Plans & Reports (DVP&R), overseeing physical bench testing, environmental stress testing, and vehicle-level validation.
- On-Site Plant & Launch Support: Provide hands‑on root cause analysis at manufacturing facilities during pre‑production builds (TT, PP, SOP) to resolve fit‑and‑finish, packaging clearances, or assembly torque issues.
- Quality & Continuous Improvement: Drive robust root‑cause investigations (DFMEA, 8D, 5‑Whys, Fishbone) for plant build non‑conformances, supplier defect reports, or warranty field issues.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience Level:
- Junior Level: 1-3 years in automotive product development within an OEM or Tier-1 environment.
- Mid Level: 3-5 years of direct DRE ownership, proven track record delivering components to SOP.
- Senior Level: 5+ years leading full‑lifecycle commodity releases, managing complex supplier networks, and resolution of launch‑critical issues.
- Technical Mastery:
- Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD platforms (CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, or Creo) and PDM systems.
- Solid command of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), stack‑up analysis, DFM/DFA, and Automotive Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, FMEA).
- In‑depth knowledge of commodity‑specific manufacturing processes (stamping, injection molding, casting, extrusion, or harness assembly).
- Language Skills: Full business fluency in Spanish and advanced professional proficiency in English (written and spoken) for global cross‑functional technical negotiations.
- Mobility: Willingness and ability to travel 20-35% to assembly plants or supplier sites in Mexico and internationally based on program milestones.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct launch experience in high‑volume production plants during new vehicle program introductions (NPI).
- Familiarity with Electric Vehicle (EV) platform packaging, high‑voltage safety standards, or advanced lightweight materials.
- Hands‑on experience interpreting FEA/CAE simulation results (ANSYS, ABAQUS, Nastran) to optimize designs prior to tooling kick‑off.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
