Job description

Giga Energy builds mission-critical power infrastructure for AI data centers, including switchboards, panelboards, unit substations and modular data centers. We deliver to hyperscaler and utility customers across North America.

As Quality Engineer, Switchboards, you’ll own product quality for our UL 891 switchboard line at our contract manufacturing partners in Mexico. You’ll own supplier qualification, incoming inspection, in-process controls, final electrical test and customer issue resolution. You’ll be the hands‑on quality owner on the floor, build out key parts of our QMS, and help shape the quality team as it grows.

Where you’ll work

This role will be based onsite in Chihuahua, Mexico.

Responsibilities
1. On‑Site Quality Inspection
  • Perform daily, hands‑on quality inspections at the vendor’s manufacturing facility throughout switchboard production.
  • Conduct incoming material inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections of UL 891 switchboards and associated components.
  • Verify switchboard construction against approved drawings, BOMs, specifications, and applicable manufacturing requirements.
  • Inspect busbar assemblies, electrical connections, wiring, mechanical assemblies, enclosures, barriers, clearances, labeling, and other critical components.
  • Verify torque application, workmanship, component installation, wire routing, grounding and bonding, and overall assembly quality.
  • Witness or verify applicable routine tests and functional checks in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements.
  • Identify defects and potential quality risks before products proceed to the next manufacturing stage or shipment.
2. UL 891 Compliance and Technical Documentation
  • Verify that switchboard construction, components, markings, and assemblies conform to applicable UL 891 requirements and the relevant UL certification or listing conditions.
  • Confirm the use of approved components and materials, including required ratings and applicable certifications.
  • Review approved drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, inspection plans, test reports, and other quality records.
  • Verify that changes to materials, components, construction, or manufacturing processes are properly reviewed and approved before implementation.
  • Coordinate with internal engineering and authorized certification representatives when clarification of compliance requirements is necessary.
  • Support preparation and maintenance of inspection checklists and product quality records.
3. Nonconformance and Corrective Action Management
  • Identify, document, and communicate quality issues to the vendor and Giga Energy stakeholders.
  • Issue or support the issuance of Non‑Conformance Reports (NCRs) and track corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate containment, rework, repair, and reinspection activities to ensure defects are properly addressed.
  • Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions and prevent recurrence of similar issues.
  • Escalate critical defects, recurring quality concerns, and potential compliance deviations promptly.
  • Ensure nonconforming products are appropriately identified and controlled until disposition and approval.
4. Vendor Quality Management
  • Work closely with the vendor’s quality, manufacturing, and engineering teams to improve product quality and manufacturing consistency.
  • Monitor vendor performance against quality expectations, inspection requirements, and delivery commitments.
  • Conduct and create process audits and manufacturing readiness reviews when required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve first‑pass yield, reduce rework, and minimize inspection‑related delays.
  • Promote adherence to approved work instructions, inspection plans, and quality procedures.
5. Testing, Inspection Records, and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and traceable inspection records for each switchboard or production lot.
  • Review electrical test records, functional test results, and other required quality documentation.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports covering production progress, inspection status, open issues, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain a defect log and track NCR closure, rework status, and final acceptance.
  • Support final product release by confirming completion of required inspections, testing, and documentation.
  • Communicate inspection findings and potential shipment risks to Giga Energy’s internal teams.
6. Cross‑Functional Coordination
  • Coordinate with Giga Energy’s engineering, quality, project management, and supply chain teams to resolve technical and quality issues.
  • Review drawing revisions, engineering changes, and customer‑specific requirements with the relevant stakeholders
