Nemak in Mexico seeks a senior energy management professional to lead energy efficiency initiatives, oversee ISO 50001 certification, and drive sustainability targets across its plants. You will manage energy budgets, audits, and regulatory compliance while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to reduce emissions and optimize energy use.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field with minimum 5 years in energy management.
  • Experience in ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems development, implementation, and certification.
  • Strong knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and emission management.
  • Familiarity with energy markets, regulations, and sustainability frameworks (GHG protocol).

Descripción del empleo

Monitors and manages the organization’s energy efficiency by implementing conservation measures, tracking energy consumption (including electricity, natural gas, LP gas, and diesel), and identifying opportunities to develop and manage projects with business units to improve energy performance and reduce air pollution. The role is responsible for implementing, certifying, and maintaining the ISO 50001 Energy Management System. Key activities include setting energy reduction targets, performing energy audits, preparing reports summarizing energy usage, developing procedures for the storage and handling of diesel and LP gas, creating training guides for managers on energy consumption, ensuring compliance with energy regulations and legal requirements, developing and implementing energy‑saving strategies, managing utility CAPEX for energy‑efficiency projects, documenting and presenting innovation and new technology projects to improve energy performance, and leading initiatives focused on carbon footprint reduction.

Main Responsibilities
  • Drive Energy Roadmap Mexico (including own power production, sourcing of renewable energies, fuel switch, etc.) that aligns with the organizations’ long-term sustainability targets and industry‑leading practices.
  • Work in emission & pollution reduction targets/net zero targets in line with the stakeholders’ commitments (e.g., Net Zero by 2050, air pollutant & waste reduction). Ensure these targets are integrated into plant operations and aligned with corporate sustainability objectives, balancing regulatory requirements with business continuity.
  • Identification, proposal, and development of projects focused on achieving sustainability targets. Establish clear pathways, timelines, and milestones for each initiative within the plant. develop and implement energy strategies to minimize carbon emissions and working on long term reduction scenarios in scope 1&2 in support of our net zero strategy. Support and evaluate the net zero implementation on plant level, always with the focus to meet decarbonization targets. Collaborate with various stakeholders to develop energy budgets, conduct financial analysis of energy projects, and ensure cost‑effective energy management strategies.
  • Conduct comprehensive net zero roadmaps & air pollutants matrix to evaluate the impact of environmental issues on business operation
  • Generate and maintain legal compliance for energy topics and reports on emissions/pollution reduction activities and results, as required to ensure accurate records. Manage our utility data management system, prepare regular reports to executive leadership, communicating progress on energy management initiatives, achievements and future plan.
  • Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency across all Nemak Mex plants and implement measures to optimize energy usage
  • Development, implementation and surveillance of ISO 50000 to ensure compliance to achieve Best‑in‑Class performance regarding Energy topics. Ensures that data traceability and integrity are maintained (for audits, decision‑making, etc.) to enable accurate and effective audits for ISO 50001 & ISO 14001. Implement data management best practices to guarantee that data is consistent, reliable, and readily available for internal assessments or external regulatory audits
  • Conduct annual reviews of legal compliance, plant performance to identify discrepancies between current practices and environmental & energy consumption reduction goals. Use this analysis to recommend and implement corrective actions to close any gaps and accelerate progress toward sustainability objectives.
  • Monitor the progress of emission reduction strategies, ensuring that corrective actions are implemented swiftly to meet targets. Work closely with cross‑functional teams, local maintenance managers and external partners to foster collaboration, share best practices and support energy initiatives. Develop and execute action plans as needed, working cross‑functionally to address barriers and enhance the effectiveness of reduction efforts
  • Evaluation of key technologies against long term decarbonization strategy and advice on emerging energy technologies and industry specific trends. Exploring innovative solutions to optimize energy usage, replacement of fossil fuels by alternative technologies and to optimize emission and energy footprint as well as to reduce costs. Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to implement best practices, overcoming technical, regulatory, and operational challenges in reducing emissions & air pollutants.
Position Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in engineering, environmental science or sustainability or related field with at least 5 years of experience in projects/energy management.
  • Technical Competences:
  • Extensive knowledge of energy efficiency technologies, preferably in the aluminum / foundry industry, and good knowledge of energy markets and emission management.
  • Desired knowledge of energy markets, renewable energy technologies, climate change mitigation strategies and sustainability frameworks (GHG protocol, relevant ISO norms)
  • Proven experience in the development, implementation, and certification of ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of energy‑related legal and regulatory compliance, including applicable standards and environmental requirements (desirable).
  • Strong background in Energy Management, including monitoring, analysis, and optimization of energy consumption.
  • Experience in Emissions Management, including monitoring, reporting, and reduction initiatives (desirable).
  • Strong Project Management skills, with the ability to manage and execute energy efficiency and sustainability projects effectively.
  • Desired certifications: ISO-14001 Environmental Management System and ISO-50001 - Energy Management System
  • Soft Competences: Effective communication, organization, attention to detail, teamwork, Decision making, Action Oriented, Strategic Agility, Change Management
