Job summary

Ford Champs in Mexico offers a 12-month, full-time student program focused on Product Development. You will work with CAD tools (CATIA V5/V6, Teamcenter, Vismockup) to design, evaluate, and optimize vehicle components.

You will participate in design reviews, BOM management, and cross-functional collaboration with Ford’s PD Engineering teams. The role emphasizes applying GD&T and DFMEA principles, improving automation, and delivering robust B2P parts within a dynamic automotive environment.

Qualifications

  • Active student pursuing an engineering degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and 2D drafting skills.
  • Strong fundamentals in Mechanical, Structural, Materials and GD&T.
  • Knowledge of CATIA V5/V6, Team Center and Vismockup.

Responsibilities

  • Proficiently uses CAD software to create and manage Build to Print parts.
  • Develop high-quality 3D CAD concepts and alternatives promptly.
  • Creates and manages assemblies, drawings, and CAD data for full vehicle environments.
  • Manages BOM structures and release processes effectively.
  • Identifies system interfaces and design feasibility using validation tools.
  • Leads design reviews and visualization activities.
  • Drives resolution of compatibility and functionality issues with tool shops and suppliers.
  • Collaborates with the extended PD Engineering team to resolve issues.
  • Applies automation tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Designs components per functional requirements and drafting standards.

As a Product Devlopment Ford Champ, you will be responsible of

  • Proficiently uses CATIA V5/V6 and similar CAD software (e.g., 3DX, NX, SolidWorks), along with Teamcenter and Vismockup, to efficiently create and manage robust, parametric, and associative Build to Print (B2P) parts.
  • Develop high-quality 3D CAD design concepts and alternatives promptly.
  • Creates and manages assemblies, drawings, motion files, and other related CAD data, as well as the complete vehicle environment with all system interfaces.
  • Manages Bill of Material (BOM) structures and release processes effectively.
  • Identifies system interfaces and potential design incompatibility using virtual validation tools.
  • Lead key design reviews and visualization or demonstration activities.
  • Drives the resolution of compatibility, feasibility, and functionality issues, collaborating directly with tool shops and suppliers.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of feature partitioning and automotive systems, enabling direct collaboration with the extended Product Development (PD) Engineering team to resolve feasibility, attribute, and functional issues.
  • Applies automation tools, such as IPS and other relevant software, to enhance efficiency.
  • Possesses knowledge of Foundation/Core Tools (e.g., DFMEA, SCCAF, 5D's).
  • Designs components in accordance with functional requirements and design rules to meet Program deliverables, utilizing applicable CAD methodologies and drafting standards.
  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of Sheet metal front end and platform systems requirements.
  • Demonstrates a deep understanding of automotive design environments at both system and sub-system levels.
  • Proactively identifies, develops, and deploys efficiency improvements, including tool and process enhancements.
  • Asks relevant questions and raises valid concerns.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely, providing appropriate detail.
What you´ll need:
  • Active Student of Automotive, Aeronautical,Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics Engineering.
    • Experience with 3D CAD and 2D drafting skills.
    • Strong engineering fundamentals in the areas of Mechanical,Structural, Materialsand GD&T.
    • CAE basic knowledge as desirable.
    • Fundamental understanding of sheet metal forming processes, FLD and stamping feasibility
    • Knowledge of Core Tools skillset (DFMEA, FMEA, APQP, PPAP, Systems Engineering)
    • Knowledge of CATIA V5/V6, Team Center, Vismockup.
    • Systems Engineering approach.
