Ford Champs at Ford México invites students in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Software, Automotive, or Mechanical Engineering to join a 12-month program bridging vehicle engineering and software automation.

You will automate sensor diagrams using VBA in Visio, develop Python/MATLAB scripts for test data parsing, and build a centralized database for sensor connector pinouts and ECU interfaces. Strong English and analytical skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Active student from any of the last 2 semesters of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Software, Automotive, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 90% English skills (Oral, reading, writing, and listening).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • MATLAB scripting, data handling, file I/O, and tool/GUI development.
  • Microsoft Visio skills or Visio API: VBA macros, stencil automation, or automated diagram drawing.
  • Python scripting: data manipulation (pandas) and automation scripts.
  • Foundational understanding of electrical circuits, sensors, wiring schematics, and connector pinouts.

Responsibilities

  • Automate sensor diagrams and schematic generation in Microsoft Visio using VBA scripts, macros, and API integrations.
  • Develop and maintain Python and MATLAB scripts to automate vehicle test data parsing and reporting.
  • Build and maintain a centralized relational database defining sensor connector pinouts and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers to structure, review, and track vehicle test plans and diagnostic workflows.
  • Analyze exhaust and OBD sensor functionality to ensure accurate schematics.
  • Apply continuous improvement to data handoffs and resolve workflow bottlenecks across teams.

As a Powertrain Calibration & Automation Engineering Ford Champ, you will bridge vehicle engineering and software automation within our Powertrain Calibration and Validation team. You will drive engineering efficiency by building automated tools, managing centralized connector databases, and digitizing technical schematics for vehicle diagnostics and emissions calibration. This opportunity offers real-world automotive exposure, hands‑on mentorship from senior calibration engineers, and direct experience solving complex data challenges.

Responsibilities

What you’ll do:

  • Automate sensor diagrams and schematic generation in Microsoft Visio using custom VBA scripts, macros, and API integrations to accelerate vehicle design verification.
  • Develop and maintain Python and MATLAB scripts to automate vehicle test data parsing, sensor wiring checks, and analytical summary reporting.
  • Build, maintain, and populate a centralized relational database defining sensor connector pinouts, electrical specifications, and Electronic Control Unit (ECU) interface assignments.
  • Collaborate with Powertrain Calibration and Diagnostics Engineers to structure, review, and track vehicle test plans and diagnostic monitoring workflows across active programs.
  • Analyze exhaust and On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) sensor functionality to ensure automated system schematics reflect precise electrical and functional operating requirements.
  • Apply continuous improvement principles to optimize data handoffs and resolve workflow bottlenecks across validation, calibration, and systems engineering teams.

  • Foundational understanding of electrical circuits and sensors: Ability to interpret wiring schematics, connector pinouts, and basic sensor signals.
Desireble:
  • Database Management & SQL: Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, SQLite) and query construction.
  • Powertrain & OBD Fundamentals: Basic exposure or interest in internal combustion engines, emissions control systems, and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD-II).
  • Automotive Calibration & Diagnostic Tools: Familiarity or exposure to calibration and acquisition environments (such as ETAS INCA, CANape , ATI Vision) and vehicle network protocols (CAN / LIN).
  • Automotive Harness & Connectivity: Basic understanding of automotive electrical wiring harness architecture and physical connectors.
  • Version Control: Familiarity with Git / GitHub for code and documentation versioning.
