Job description

DEPCOM Power, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is looking for a Power Systems Engineer that can work well in a fast-paced and collaborative engineering environment. This position will be based at our Queretaro office (Tech Center) and requires less than 10% of international travel for business meetings, project support, and client visits.

This role provides an opportunity to develop technical expertise in power system analysis while supporting utility-scale Solar and BESS projects.

Our Team

The Power Systems Engineering team supports the design and execution of utility-scale Solar and BESS EPC projects through electrical system modeling, analysis, testing, and validation.

This role works collaboratively with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams to support safe, reliable, compliant, and high-quality project execution. The team partners with Design Engineering, SCADA, and other project stakeholders to ensure power system requirements are properly evaluated and incorporated into project design.

What You Will Do
  • Support the development and review of generic and user-defined plant models using PSS/E and PSCAD for utility-scale Solar, BESS, substations, gen-ties, and switchyards.
  • Develop and analyze power system models for steady-state and transient AC studies under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Support electrical studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, grounding, transient over-voltage, and harmonics.
  • Collaborate with Lead Design Engineers to help align power system studies with equipment selection and infrastructure ratings.
  • Assist with testing and model validation activities, including coordination with SCADA partners.
  • Support activities related to NERC MOD model validation and testing requirements.
  • Review vendor equipment information and support the maintenance of technical databases used for system modeling and analysis.
  • Participate in technical discussions with engineering teams, project stakeholders, vendors, and customers.
  • Support the development and improvement of engineering procedures, templates, workflows, and technical tools.
  • Manage assigned engineering activities across multiple projects while meeting established priorities and deadlines.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field, with professional registration (Cedula Professional - SEP) in Mexico.
  • Experience or academic knowledge in power system analysis, electrical system modeling, or electrical engineering analysis and design.
  • Experience or academic exposure to power system analysis software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, PSLF, EMTP, ASPEN, SKM, ETAP, CDEGS, or CYME.
  • Knowledge of fundamental electrical engineering principles related to steady-state and transient power systems.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, technical documentation, and engineering data.
  • Experience creating technical reports, analyzing information, or compiling engineering data.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment.
  • English oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to the US during short periods (valid passport and visa).
  • Valid driving license.
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Previous professional or internship experience in Power Systems, EPC, Utility Solar, BESS, conventional power, or industrial projects.
  • Experience using PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, or similar power system analysis software.
  • Knowledge of power system modeling, steady-state, transient, protection, or short-circuit studies.
  • Knowledge of substations, gen-ties, switchyards, or Balance of Plant (BOP) concepts.
  • Knowledge of model validation and testing requirements associated with NERC, regional ISO, or utility requirements.
  • Programming knowledge or experience using Python for engineering applications.
  • Experience or knowledge related to utility-scale Solar and Energy Storage systems.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating in multidisciplinary or multilingual engineering environments.
