Job description

Why Join Ford of Mexico?

Celebrating over 100 years of legacy in Mexico, we are more than just a business—we are a vibrant, collaborative community of over 14,000 innovators shaping the global future of transportation. At Ford, we build what matters, grow where it counts, and drive progress with heart. Whether you are collaborating at our state-of-the-art Global Technology and Business Center (GTBC) or manufacturing iconic, award-winning vehicles in our world-class plants, you will find a culture evolving together, built on trust, passion, and shared purpose. Here, your work moves people forward, and your growth is personal. Join us, and let’s build what’s next together.

In this position

As a Vehicle Power Systems Modeling & Energy Optimization Intern within the Ford Champs Program, you will help advance vehicle electrical efficiency and energy management across our connected and electrified vehicle lineup. In this collaborative systems engineering role, you will analyze feature electrical loads, construct simulation models, and build digital traceability between functional requirements and physical power consumption, directly helping maximize battery life and elevate the ownership experience for millions of drivers.

What You'll Do
  • Model and calculate electrical power consumption and energy budgets across diverse vehicle feature states, operating modes, and customer use cases.
  • Establish and maintain end-to-end traceability linking functional engineering requirements, behavior-driven test scenarios (Gherkin), and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) architectures to empirical power data.
  • Gather, structure, and analyze empirical electrical load data from physical vehicle testing, laboratory benches, and engineering repositories.
  • Support the design of MBSE models (spanning requirements, structural hierarchy, behavioral states, and simulations) for low-voltage power distribution networks.
  • Collaborate with Feature Systems Engineering, Controls, and Architecture teams to evaluate technical power specifications, assess supplier inputs, and conduct Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEA).
  • Help standardize methodologies, automated templates, and simulation workflows for projecting vehicle power loads, reducing battery drain, and supporting cost optimization.
You’ll have
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (with controls/systems focus), or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Foundational understanding of vehicle electrical architectures, low-voltage power distribution, or embedded electronic systems.
  • Analytical aptitude with experience organizing and interpreting complex engineering datasets using spreadsheet tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel) or scientific computing environments.
  • Strong collaborative mindset with the ability to coordinate technical information across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Professional working proficiency in English (written and verbal), with the ability to clearly document engineering models, specifications, and technical reports.
Even better, you may have
  • Academic or practical experience using scripting and numerical computing languages (such as Python or MATLAB/Simulink) for modeling and data analysis.
  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and modeling tools (such as SysML, Cameo Systems Modeler / MagicDraw).
  • Familiarity with automotive communication networks (e.g., CAN/LIN) and requirements management platforms (e.g., Jama, Jira).

Ford of Mexico is committed to being an equal opportunity employer. We believe that a diverse and inclusive workplace is essential to our success. We do not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, pregnancy, veteran status, or disability status.

We thank all candidates for their interest, but only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
