Continental Industry in Mexico seeks a senior Rubber Materials Scientist to develop and optimize rubber compounds for power transmission belts and conveyor belts. You will lead compound development projects and collaborate across R&D, production, and quality teams to drive performance and cost efficiency.

The role includes identifying new material technologies, supporting industrialization of new compounds, and contributing to AI-enabled tooling and processes. Travel up to 10% is expected.

Formación

• Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science (PhD preferred).
• Several years of experience in rubber and plastics industry desirable.
• Strong understanding of structure–property relationships and designing test plans.
• Basic knowledge of rubber materials, compounding and processing.
• Analytical and scientific mindset.
• Self-driven, team player with ownership and ability to work independently.
• Proactive and structured problem-solving mindset; project management experience.
• Good international and intercultural communication skills; fluent English.
• Willingness to travel (up to 10%).

Responsabilidades

Job Description

• Develop and optimize rubber compounds with the focus on power transmission belts and conveyor belts
• Lead compound development projects and participate in other R&D projects
• Drive activities to reduce our compound and raw material cost as well as complexity
• Drive the ideation and development of new innovative material technologies, with focus on performance, processability, cost efficiency and sustainability
• Support the industrialization of new compounds in close collaboration with other departments
• Support troubleshootings related to material topics in close collaboration with plants, quality and business functions
• Support the creation and implementation of new processes and software applications incl. AI-based tools
• Maintain the interfaces with internal customers, labs, product development, plants and business functions

Qualifications

• Master’s degree (PhD preferred) in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering / Material Science or similar fields of study, preferentially with focus on polymer or rubber chemistry
• Several years of work experience in the rubber and plastics industry desirable
• Outstanding chemical understanding, such as structure–property relationships, designing test plans etc.
• Basic knowledge of rubber materials, compounding and related processing
• Analytical and scientific workstyle
• Self-driven team player with a high degree of ownership and capability to work independently
• Pro‑active and structured problem‑solving mindset
• Project management experience
• Good international and intercultural communication skills incl. capability to work in a global environment
• Fluent English language skills (oral and written)
• Willingness to travel (up to 10% of your time)
