National Pen in Mexico is seeking a Global Packaging Engineer to lead packaging strategy across its manufacturing network and own standards, master data, and continuous improvement for all active SKUs.

You will coordinate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, NPI, Procurement, and Product teams to drive cost reductions, freight efficiency, and standardization while meeting local requirements. The role requires cross-functional leadership and data governance.

Formación

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Packaging, or related field).
  • 1-2 years of packaging engineering, product engineering, testing, validation, supply chain, logistics, or related technical roles.
  • Fluent English.
  • Strong understanding of product design, quality criteria, and validation methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze and manage large data sets.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma tools.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Understanding of dimensions, weights, packaging configurations, and shipping concepts.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, engineering documentation tools, and ERP systems.
  • Experience with ERP, PIM, or product data systems preferred.

Responsabilidades

  • Lead and coordinate packaging activities across National Pen's global manufacturing network.
  • Maintain packaging master data, ensuring accuracy of dimensions, weights, case packs, and shipping attributes across systems.
  • Track packaging KPIs, costs, freight efficiency, compliance, defects, and customer feedback; support corrective actions.
  • Support packaging setup, validation, and documentation for new product launches.
  • Coordinate packaging activities with manufacturing and supply chain teams; promote standardization and improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize packaging, reduce waste and freight costs, and improve operational efficiency.

Overview of Role

The Global Packaging Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating packaging activities across National Pen's global manufacturing network. This role owns the packaging strategy, standards, master data, and continuous improvement of packaging solutions for all active SKUs.

The position ensures that every product has an efficient, cost-effective, protective, and operationally optimized packaging configuration while maintaining consistency across global sites. The Global Packaging Engineer serves as the key point of contact for packaging standards, system setup, packaging master data, freight optimization, and packaging performance reporting.

Working closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, NPI, Procurement, and Product teams, the role drives packaging standardization, cost reduction, freight efficiency, and operational excellence across all facilities.

Global Packaging Ownership
  • Own the global packaging strategy and standards across all National Pen manufacturing and fulfillment locations.
  • Act as the central coordinator for packaging-related initiatives and decisions.
  • Ensure packaging solutions are standardized where appropriate while meeting local operational requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional packaging reviews and governance processes.
Packaging Optimization
  • Evaluate and optimize packaging designs for active SKUs.
  • Drive reductions in packaging costs, freight costs, DIM weight charges, and waste.
  • Ensure optimal carton sizing, cube utilization, pallet utilization, and transportation efficiency.
  • Improve operational productivity and customer experience.
  • Lead packaging improvement projects and cost reduction initiatives globally.
Packaging Data & Systems
  • Maintain packaging master data, ensuring accuracy of dimensions, weights, case packs, and shipping attributes across systems.
  • Support data integrity, compliance, and packaging information required for logistics, warehousing, and costing.
KPI & Reporting
  • Track packaging KPIs, costs, freight efficiency, compliance, defects, and customer feedback.
  • Prepare reports and support corrective actions to improve performance.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Support packaging setup, validation, and documentation for new product launches.
  • Ensure packaging meets operational, quality, shipping, and cost requirements.
Operations Support
  • Coordinate packaging activities with manufacturing and supply chain teams.
  • Promote consistent packaging standards and support implementation of improvements.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to optimize packaging, reduce waste and freight costs, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Participate in standardization, sustainability, and process improvement initiatives.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Packaging, or related field).
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in packaging engineering, product engineering, testing, validation, supply chain, logistics, or related technical roles.
  • Fluent English.
