Job summary

WeRoad S.r.l. is seeking a Staff/Lead Data Engineer to steer a small, senior data team in building a best-in-class data platform. You will own data architecture (BigQuery, dbt, semantic layer) and ingestion/orchestration (Airflow, dlt), while enabling self-serve BI with Tableau/Metabase/Lightdash.

You will mentor engineers, drive data governance, and push AI-enabled data engineering practices across the team, partnering with multi-market stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in data engineering / analytics engineering in fast-growing product companies.
• Experience leading and mentoring engineers in a small, senior team.
• Excellent English communication and collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small data engineering team (1–2 engineers) and drive delivery and career development.
• Evolve data architecture: BigQuery warehouse, dbt transformation, and semantic layer for metrics.
• Own ingestion and orchestration stack (Airflow, dlt) and ensure reliable, observable pipelines.
• Oversee self-service BI and reporting toolkit (Tableau, Metabase, Lightdash) for stakeholder data exploration.
• Establish and maintain data governance (quality, lineage, documentation, PII and access controls).
• Drive AI across the team, including AI-assisted engineering and AI data pipelines.
• Collaborate with Director of Data Engineering & AI, Data & BI, Product, and stakeholders to translate priorities into a data roadmap.
• Strong SQL and hands-on with dbt, ELT/ingestion, and Airflow.
