You will define system and subsystem requirements, maintain architectures, and ensure integration between payload, platform subsystems, and ground segment.

You will coordinate with mechanical, electrical, software, thermal, AOCS, power, and AIT teams to ensure performance and interface consistency.

Competenze

• Master’s degree in a technical discipline is required.
• 5–10 years of System Engineering experience in space programs or small teams.

For an Italian company operating in the space sector, specialized in the design and development of advanced solutions for micro and small satellites, we are looking for a

SPACE SYSTEMS ENGINEER

This is a role of significant importance: the selected candidate will report directly to the General Manager and will be the first System Engineering professional to join the company, with the prospect of becoming, over time, the reference point for developing this competency within the organization.

The role entails responsibility for the concept, specifications, design, and verification of satellite systems throughout the entire mission lifecycle. This includes defining and maintaining system and subsystem requirements consistent with mission objectives, supporting requirements flow-down and traceability throughout development, as well as developing and maintaining system architectures to ensure consistent integration between payload, platform subsystems, and ground segment, and managing system budgets (mass, power, link, data rate) and interface consistency across disciplines.

The role will involve coordinating with the mechanical, electrical, software, thermal, AOCS, power, and AIT subsystem teams to ensure alignment and overall system performance, facilitating technical communication among the various stakeholders.

Responsibilities will also include defining and supporting verification and validation activities, supporting test campaigns, and ensuring compliance with applicable requirements and internal processes.

The role also covers the preparation and maintenance of system specifications and Interface Control Documents, participation in reviews, identifying technical risks and proposing mitigation strategies, and monitoring performance budgets and margins throughout the development lifecycle.

The small satellite context makes this position particularly stimulating: it allows the postholder to follow an entire project journey, from design through testing and commissioning, with development cycles that are relatively short compared to large-scale space programs — offering the satisfaction of seeing the tangible results of one’s work within a limited timeframe. Requirements and profile:

We are looking for a candidate with a Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline, with at least 5 years of experience in System Engineering roles if gained in smaller organizations, or up to 10 years if coming from more structured organizations. Ideally, professional experience has been gained in the space sector, preferably in Small Satellites or New Space Programs.

Good knowledge of system engineering processes, requirements management, and verification and validation activities is required, along with technical coordination and interface management skills, and excellent written and spoken English.

Knowledge of ECSS standards, familiarity with ESA and ASI project environments, knowledge of environmental testing and satellite integration activities, and experience with tools such as DOORS, Enterprise Architect, MATLAB, or Simulink will be considered a plus.

The ideal candidate is passionate and proactive, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, an aptitude for coordinating multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders, and a desire to take on a prominent role within a growing organization.

The indicated RAL is approximate and takes into account internal salary equity and market trends; it will be tailored based on the profile of the selected candidate, their background, the level of autonomy they will be given, and the training support they will need to receive.
