Job summary

Leonardo, GCAP HQ in Reading (UK) for GCAP Technical Leadership, seeks a Senior Solution Architect to design, implement and oversee technical services, ensuring secure, scalable IT architectures. The role involves base Italy with a mandatory secondment to Reading, offering executive-level responsibilities and a path to global impact.

You will lead cloud, security, and infrastructure initiatives, guiding engineering and operations, while aligning with enterprise standards and compliance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in solution architecture with a focus on technical services.
• Experience deploying cloud infrastructure and IT systems.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native services, IAM, and cost optimization.
• Security measures such as IAM, firewalls, and threat detection.
• Experience driving digital transformation (cloud migrations/DevOps).
• Cost management of IT services incl. infra, licensing, and cloud usage.
• Understanding of servers, networking, storage, virtualization.
• Strong verbal and written communication; high ethics.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable, secure, cost-effective technical architectures.
• Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance of IT systems.
• Incorporate security practices like IAM, encryption, threat detection.
• Provide hands-on architectural guidance to engineering and operations.
• Liaise between Product Owners, Tech Leads, Cybersecurity, and Enterprise Architects.
• Monitor emerging technologies and modernise IT systems.
• Optimize costs by selecting cost-effective technologies.
• Design services with DR, failover, redundancy for business continuity.
• Create and maintain documentation of designs and standards.
