About Us
Generative Bionics is a deep-tech company building humanoid robot platforms to deploy human centered Physical AI. We design intelligent, capable machines that work alongside people in real-world environments — developed in Genova, Italy.
Role
We are building a software infrastructure team to make our humanoid robot platform reliable, integrated, observable, and deployable as it evolves from research and prototypes into a real product. We are looking for a Robotics Software Architect to define and evolve the technical foundations that connect the robot’s software components: real-time control, device drivers, sensing, AI and autonomy applications, simulation, data collection, testing, and deployment. You will work across teams to turn system-level needs into clear architectural choices, practical interfaces, and devel opment workflows that enable engineers to move quickly without compromising reliability. This is a hands-on architecture role. You will be expected to understand the behavior of software on real robots, work closely with engineers in the lab, and help ensure that the systems we build can be operated, diagnosed, updated, and supported outside a purely experimental environment.
Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the software architecture for the humanoid platform, including component boundaries, interfaces, dependencies, lifecycle management, and system-wide communication patterns;
- Lead the technical design of the infrastructure that integrates control, sensing, actuation, AI, teleoperation, simulation, logging, diagnostics, and user-facing applications;
- Establish pragmatic engineering standards for APIs, configuration, versioning, observability, testing, release management, and documentation;
- Partner with robotics, controls, AI, electronics, and mechanical teams to ensure that the software architecture reflects the constraints and behavior of the physical system;
- Support technical decision-making through design reviews, prototypes, and evidence gathered from simulation and physical robots;
- Mentor engineers and technical leads, fostering clear ownership, sound engineering judgment, and alignment across teams;
Requirements
- Experience designing or evolving complex software systems and making sound technical trade offs across multiple components and teams;
- Strong software-engineering foundations and practical experience with modern C++, Python and versioning systems like git;
- Familiarity with Security-by-Design, SSDLC, and secure development practices, including OWASP Top 10, OWASP ASVS, secure coding, and common software vulnerabilities;
- Understanding of authentication, authorization, cryptography, and secure communications principles;
- Familiarity with vulnerability management and patching processes;
- Understanding of embedded Linux security concepts and system hardening techniques;
- Ability to communicate architecture clearly to both technical colleagues and cross-functional stakeholders;
- A collaborative, pragmatic, and hands-on approach to solving problems;
- Interest in working closely with physical systems and multidisciplinary engineering teams;
- Professional proficiency in English;
- Availability to travel nationally and internationally is expected;
- Experience architecting or maintaining software for robots, autonomous machines, industrial automation, embedded products, vehicles, medical devices, or other reliability-critical physical systems;
- Experience taking complex products from prototype through validation, field deployment, operation, support, and iterative improvement;
- Experience with robotics middleware, communication technologies, and frameworks such as ROS 2, YARP, DDS, gRPC, Zenoh, WebRTC, or equivalent distributed component-based systems;
- Familiarity with real-time Linux, Embedded Linux, device drivers, fieldbuses, industrial communication protocols, or hardware-software integration;
- Experience with deployment and fleet-management practices, including reproducible builds, CI/CD, OTA updates, containerization, configuration management, telemetry, DevSecOps and remote diagnostics;
- Experience designing observability, logging, tracing, replay, simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, or test infrastructure for distributed or cyber-physical systems;
- Familiarity with functional safety, cybersecurity, quality, or compliance considerations relevant to robotics, industrial, automotive, or medical products;
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for connected products, including authentication, authorization, secure communication, secrets management, software updates, and vulnerability management;
- Experience leading technical decisions in a fast-growing product organization or contributing to open-source infrastructure projects;
- Experience working within DevSecOps environments;
- Experience with Embedded Linux environments and secure firmware development;
- Experience with Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) generation and management;
- Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP);
- Experience with cloud services, edge computing, data pipelines, or ML/AI systems integrated with physical products;
- Experience with agile metodologies and project management tools like GitHub Projects, ZenHub, Jira or similar;
- Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience;
We Offer
- The opportunity to define the software foundations of a new generation of humanoid robotic systems;
- A role with direct impact across the entire robot platform, from low-level actuation to high level AI capabilities and real-world deployment;
- A stimulating and informal environment alongside highly skilled robotics, AI, electronics, and mechanical engineering teams;
- The opportunity to work on a product where software decisions have visible, physical consequences;
- Concrete opportunities for professional growth;
- Competitive salary and contract commensurate with experience;
