About Us
Generative Bionics is a deep-tech company building humanoid robot platforms to deploy human centered Physical AI. We design intelligent, capable machines that work alongside people in real-world environments — developed in Genova, Italy.
Role
We are building a software infrastructure team to make our humanoid robot platform reliable, integrated, observable, and deployable as it evolves from research and prototypes into a real product. We are looking for a Robotics Software Lead to guide the execution of the team responsible for integrating the software components of our humanoid platform. You will translate architectural direction and product priorities into concrete engineering plans, coordinate implementation across contributors, and ensure that integrated software releases work reliably in simulation, in the laboratory, and during real-world deployments. This is a hands‑on technical leadership role. You will combine day‑to‑day engineering, technical coordination, mentoring, and delivery ownership. You will work closely with Robotics, Controls, AI, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Product, and Operations teams to turn complex prototypes into maintainable and deployable product capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the development and integration of software spanning control, sensing, actuation, AI, teleoperation, simulation, logging, diagnostics, and deployment;
- Own the technical readiness of integrated software releases, including build reproducibility, configuration, testing, validation, deployment, monitoring, and recovery;
- Review designs and code, support difficult debugging activities, and contribute directly to critical implementation and integration work;
- Identify dependencies, technical risks, recurring failure modes, and delivery blockers, coordinating practical resolutions across teams;
- Mentor engineers, encourage ownership and constructive technical discussion, and help improve the team’s engineering practices;
- Communicate technical progress, trade‑offs, and risks clearly to engineering leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders;
Requirements
- Experience delivering and maintaining complex software systems, with responsibility for technical coordination or the execution of multi‑component projects;
- Strong software‑engineering foundations and practical experience with modern C++ and/or Python;
- Ability to break down ambiguous system‑level problems into actionable engineering work;
- Clear communication, collaborative leadership, and a pragmatic, hands‑on approach;
- Interest in working closely with physical systems and multidisciplinary engineering teams;
- Professional proficiency in English;
- Availability to travel nationally and internationally is expected;
- Experience leading software development or integration for robots, autonomous machines, industrial automation, embedded products, vehicles, medical devices, or other complex physical systems;
- Experience bringing products from prototype through validation, field deployment, operational support, and iterative improvement;
- Experience coordinating engineers through planning, design reviews, code reviews, integration campaigns, releases, and incident resolution;
- Familiarity with robotics middleware, communication technologies, and frameworks such as ROS 2, YARP, DDS, gRPC, Zenoh, WebRTC, or equivalent distributed component‑based systems;
- Experience with Linux, real‑time or embedded systems, device drivers, fieldbuses, EtherCAT, CAN/CAN‑FD, serial protocols, or hardware‑software integration;
- Experience with CI/CD, reproducible builds, automated testing, containers, package management, deployment automation, configuration management, OTA updates, DevSecOps or remote diagnostics;
- Experience with observability, logging, tracing, telemetry, replay, simulation, hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, or debugging distributed systems;
- Familiarity with fleet operations, release management, serviceability, incident response, or customer‑site deployment of connected products;
- Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles for connected products, including authentication, authorization, secure communication, secrets management, software updates, and vulnerability management;
- Familiarity with functional safety, quality, or compliance considerations relevant to robotics, industrial, automotive, or medical products;
- Experience with agile methodologies and project management tools like GitHub Projects, ZenHub, Jira or similar;
- Experience contributing to open‑source projects or maintaining shared software platforms used by multiple engineering teams;
- Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Automation, Control Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
We Offer
- The opportunity to build and guide the team responsible for the software foundations of a new generation of humanoid robots;
- Direct ownership of execution across the robot software lifecycle, from integration and validation to field deployment and support;
- A stimulating and informal environment alongside highly skilled robotics, AI, electronics, and mechanical engineering teams;
- A hands‑on leadership role where technical decisions produce visible results on physical systems;
- Concrete opportunities for professional growth;
- Competitive salary and contract commensurate with experience;
