Progress Rail Signaling Spa is seeking a Software Designer in Italy to contribute to safety-critical railway signaling software. You will design, test and develop software across the lifecycle, focusing on high-quality code production and robust design practices.

Role requires knowledge of C, C++, Java and English (B2); a software engineering or computer science degree; and the ability to work in a multinational environment while following EN 50126-50128 and SIL4 safety standards.

Competenze

  • Extensive experience in multinational industrial contexts (railway/signaling).
  • Proven proficiency in C, C++, and Java; strong software fundamentals.
  • Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent.
  • Stay up to date with hardware, systems and coding developments.
  • Good English knowledge (B2) required; strong problem solving and communication.
  • Ability to design, analyze and document software as part of the lifecycle.

Mansioni

  • Improve system quality by identifying issues and standardizing procedures.
  • Follow safety prescriptions (SIL 4) per EN 50126-50128 standards.
  • Enhance applications by designing and implementing improvements.
  • Maintain and improve existing codebases; peer review changes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to implement technical designs.
  • Investigate new technologies and report findings to management.
  • Write reports and present findings to managers and colleagues.
