Job summary

ABB Italy in Bergamo zoekt een ervaren R&D Engineer voor ontwerp, ontwikkeling en optimalisatie van elektrische schakelapparatuur zoals ACB/MCCB en schakelaars. Je voert multi‑body en spannings-/verplaatsingssimulaties uit op CAD‑modellen en deelt bevindingen met het team.

Je draagt bij aan best practices, documenteert resultaten en werkt in een hybride werkomgeving met aandacht voor welzijn en ontwikkeling bij ABB.

Qualifications

• Master degree in Mechanical Engineering, bij voorkeur ervaring met ontwerp en onderhoud van electromechanische en elektronische apparaten.
• Minimaal 5 jaar ervaring in relevante sector/gebied.
• Bedreven in 3D CAD-tools zoals Creo.
• Ervaring met multibody-, spannings- en torsie-/tolerantie-analyses en simulaties.

Responsibilities

• Samenwerken met internationale/interdisciplinaire teams aan ontwerp, ontwikkeling en optimalisatie van ABB‑electrificatieproducten (ACB, MCCB, schakelaars).
• Voeren van Multi‑Body Analysis, Stress & Strain Simulations, Structural Analysis en Tolerance Analysis op CAD‑modellen.
• Resultaten documenteren en presenteren aan stakeholders; best practices definiëren en kennis delen.
• Streven naar continue verbetering van simulatiemethodes.

Your role and responsibilities

Collaborate closely with international and interdisciplinary teams on design, development, and optimization of new ABB electrification products like Air Circuit Breakers (ACB), Molded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB), Switches, etc. Carry out Multi-Body Analysis, Stress & Strain Simulations, Structural Analysis, and Tolerance Analysis, based on 2D/3D CAD models. Document and present simulations results and engage in technical discourse, offering insights into possible improvements and innovative solutions. Identify commonalities in the applied methodologies and define best practices. Drive continuous enhancement of simulation methodologies and share this knowledge.

Qualifications for the role

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineer, preferably with previous experience in design and maintenance of electromechanical and electronic devices.
• At least 5 year of experience required in relevant area/field.
• Mastering of 3D CAD tools, such as Creo.
• Working experience with multibody, stress & strain, structural, and tolerance analysis and simulations.
• An active and collaborative mindset, adept at both independent work and participation within a nimble, high-velocity team.
• Adaptability under pressure and an inclination to contribute to the evolution of the team and other people.
• You are at ease communicating in English
• Knowledge of electric arc modeling and simulation is a plus.

Compensation Package

As part of our commitment to transparency, we want to share the compensation details for this position:

Applicable CBA: Metalmeccanico

Minimum annual salary: € 48.000

Variable Pay: AIP Target 5% + Eligible for Company Productivity Bonus
