Leap29 is partnering with a leading renewable energy platform as it continues to expand its financing team in Italy. The business is looking to appoint a Project Finance Associate to join its Milan-based team and support the financing, refinancing and development of a growing portfolio of renewable energy assets.

We are seeking a mid-level Project Finance professional with approximately 5–8 years of relevant experience, gained within a renewable energy developer, IPP, investment platform, bank, debt fund or other financial institution. The successful candidate will bring strong experience in project finance transactions, financial modelling and debt structuring, ideally with a background in solar PV. Experience with BESS / battery energy storage projects would be a significant advantage.

The Position Working closely with the investment, finance and development functions, you will play an important role in the structuring and execution of financing transactions across renewable energy projects and portfolios. The position offers exposure to both new project financings and refinancing transactions, with a particular focus on solar PV and energy storage assets in Italy and potentially across wider European markets.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the structuring and execution of project and portfolio financing transactions for solar PV and BESS assets.
• Develop, maintain and enhance detailed project finance and portfolio financial models.
• Perform debt sizing, cash flow analysis, refinancing assessments, investment analysis and downside modelling.
• Analyse key credit metrics including leverage, DSCR, debt capacity, liquidity and covenant headroom.
• Support transactions throughout the full financing lifecycle, from initial structuring and lender engagement through to financial close.
• Work alongside banks, debt providers, financial advisors, lawyers and other transaction counterparties.
• Assist with the negotiation of senior debt facilities, refinancing arrangements and other financing structures.
• Review and negotiate financing terms, including cash sweeps, distribution restrictions, reserve accounts, financial covenants and cure mechanisms.
• Support the refinancing, optimisation and capital structuring of existing renewable energy portfolios.
• Assess project and platform-level liquidity requirements and future funding needs.
• Contribute to the review and preparation of financing documentation, including representations and warranties and other transaction provisions.
• Prepare detailed financial analysis and recommendations for investment and financing committees.
• Take ownership of modelling and transaction workstreams, working closely with senior members of the financing team.

Candidate Profile

• 5–8 years of experience in Project Finance, Infrastructure Finance, Renewable Energy Finance or a closely related field.
• Experience within an IPP, renewable energy developer, infrastructure investor, bank, lender, debt fund or financial institution.
• A strong understanding of project finance structures, debt financing and credit analysis.
• Excellent financial modelling capabilities, including the ability to build and develop complex models independently.
• Demonstrable experience with solar PV project financing.
• Previous exposure to BESS / battery storage financing would be highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of debt sizing, refinancing, financial structuring and downside case analysis.
• Experience working directly with lenders and other financing counterparties.
• Familiarity with financing documentation and representations & warranties (R&W) is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, numerical and communication skills.
• The ability to manage multiple workstreams and take ownership of transactions.
• A practical, hands-on and entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to operate effectively within a lean and fast-growing organisation.
