Tenova is seeking a Mechanical Project Designer to join the Melt Shops Team in Castellanza. The role emphasizes 2D/3D design, layout planning for installations, and detailed engineering across multiple internal and external teams in a high-technology environment.

You will estimate weights, develop BOMs, ensure regulatory compliance, and participate in supplier and site inspections. Strong English, CAD/FEM skills, and travel readiness are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Industrial Mechanical Design or Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience.
• Experience in mechanical design is essential.
• Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor.
• Knowledge of CAD and FEM software (Ansys, Nastran, Recap, Inventor, AutoCAD, Navisworks).
• Good command of English; MS Office tools knowledge.
• Willingness to travel and collaborate in international teams.

Responsabilités

• Design in 2D and 3D formats, considering customer requirements, timing, quality, reliability, cost, and manufacturability.
• Prepare layouts showing installation in client plants.
• Develop mechanical aspects of projects and verify basic and detail engineering.
• Estimate weights for structures/equipment and develop BOMs.
• Perform basic/detail engineering based on input data from multiple engineers and departments.
• Manage external studios and ensure timely progress.
• Design equipment compliant with regulations; define standard specifications with Project Engineer and targets.
• Review design of civil works for machine installation.
• Conduct on-site inspections when needed and document as-built information.
• Convert 2D drawings to 3D models and generate drawings from 3D; perform verification analyses (e.g., FEM).
• Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes to select appropriate methods.
• Participate in supplier/site/production meetings if needed.
• Generate scope of work specifications and define technical requirements for equipment packages.
• Supervise outsourced tasks and ensure proper execution.

Job description:

Mechanical Project Designer

We are looking for a Mechanical Project Designer willing to join our Melt Shops Team, with strong passion for technology and motivation to work within a multicultural and challenging environment. You will work in an international environment characterized by high technology complexity.

The candidate will take responsibility of the following activities:

• Design in 2D and in 3D format, as mandatory skills. Consider customer requirements, timing target, quality and reliability targets, cost optimization and design for manufacturability in all new equipment design;
• Prepare layouts showing to Client how and where the equipment will be installed in their plant;
• Develop all mechanical aspects of a project; prepare and/or verify basic and detail engineering, both internal and external, according to the level of responsibility;
• Estimate, during basic engineer phases, the weights for structures/equipment to better fit and optimize with the technical design requirements. Develop bills of materials;
• Perform the basic/detail engineering elaboration about input data received (from Project Engineer, Mechanical Dept. Manager, Process Engineer, R&D dept., Proposal dept.);
• Manage engineering external studio, taking responsibility too as timing and schedule proper progress;
• Design equipment in compliance with all applicable regulation; define the project standard specification in cooperation with the Project Engineer as well as with Contract targets;
• Understand, develop and review design of civil works for the installation of the machines;
• Perform, if necessary, on-site inspections from site surveys up to the ascertaining of the document "as built";
• Perform and review basic/detail engineering. Convert 2D drawings into 3D models and creation of drawings from 3D models and their verification analysis (ex. FEM);
• Detailed knowledge about the most important manufacturing processes adopted in mechanical industry in order to choose the most appropriate manufacturing procedure;
• Participate, when necessary, to inspections and meetings at suppliers/ sites/ production/ customer/ manufacturing premises;
• Generate scope of work specifications that define the work included, work excluded and battery limits along with technical requirements for each equipment package or components;
• Manage and supervise the execution of tasks, which have been outsourced.

What we ask for:

• Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Mechanical Design or Secondary School Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (with at least 5 years of experiences);
• Experience in mechanical design is a must;
• Knowledge of Autodesk software as AutoCad and Inventor is a must;
• Knowledge of the main technological transformation processes for the production of semi-finished products (CNC milling, sheet metal bending, laser cutting, welding, ecc);
• Steel Industry knowledge and experience (at least 3 years) is a plus;
• Knowledge of Autodesk Pro.File software is a plus;
• Good Knowledge of CAD and FEM software, Ansys/Nastran/Recap/Inventor/AutoCad/Navisworks preferably;
• Experience with 3D / 2D CAD and technical calculation methods;
• Effective knowledge of English language;
• Knowledge of the most advanced PC tools (MS Excel, MS Word, ecc);
• Willingness to travel;
• Collaborative approach, team working and problem solving skills, flexibility, critical thinking and "Can do" attitude;
• Good coordination and planning skills.

For the position, the starting gross annual salary will be from € 40.000, with the final offer determined based on the candidate's seniority, experience, and skills, as well as the outcome of the selection process.
